  1. Solved Problem changing icons for similar file extensions.

By using a very old program called Types, I was able to eliminate the Class and the Perceived Type of the troublesome extensions. In turn, the icon assigned to a particular extension no longer effects the icons of files with similar content. Ergo, I'm happy again.
  2. Solved Problem changing icons for similar file extensions.

Re: ... completely ignored the link from MS ... No. I went to the link and then I force-fed the following ... I also noticed that the link said "Icons can also be assigned on an application-specific basis". I see the word "can". Not the word "must". But, like it says in...
  3. Solved Problem changing icons for similar file extensions.

Well, as it turns out, I don't even have a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\txtfile But the .txt has ... After a backup, I deleted HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt and all the others that pointed to the same application with the idea of reconstructing them from scratch. SURPRISE: Nothing changed at all (!?)...
  4. Solved Problem changing icons for similar file extensions.

Hi dalchina Thanks for stopping by. I like your recommendation however the problem remains. I need to know how to break up the mandatory relationship between the various text files with differing extensions. This program is a ..."Change one and they all change". Re: Nirsoft's...
  5. Solved Problem changing icons for similar file extensions.

At one time, I had different homemade icons for each of ... .txt .srt .vtt .ass etc. Then, out of the blue, if I now change any one of them, the system will change all the others as well. Just because they are all simple text files, Windows thinks I want the same icon for each...
  6. Seven different USB Cameras fail on two separate computers.

I don't know if it matters but the problem began when I temporarily removed a Logitech 720p USB camera from one computer (Win'11) and added it to another (Win'10). It didn't come up. Later, I returned it to the Win'11 system and it no longer functions. I then went thru my "junk box" of older...
  7. Unable to Remove the Libraries in Explorer

Hello x509 (any acquaintance to 007?) - Welcome to Registry Bashing 101 So far, I've succeeded in the miraculous disappearance of ALL except "Documents" (because it was passed my bedtime). Please set a RESTORE POINT or some other complete Registry Back-up before following this amateur's...
  8. Unable to remove bloat from the context menu.

Following my complete failure at removing Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos from Explorer, I'm now directing my impotent hammer at the right-click context menu. No matter what utility I've used, none will display ALL the unsolicited junk that robs our real-estate and...
  9. Unable to Remove the Libraries in Explorer

So . . . Are we having fun yet? NOP! I did the . . . . . . with the "keep-my-stuff" option and using the on-line method. What a disaster! Program Files and Program Files (x86) were wiped clean of all my installed applications. It would take me a month to put everything back. While...

    Hi Ghot, Been there. . . Done that . . . Did it again (third time) . . . All I got was another T-shirt. Re-started Explorer.exe . . . Re-Booted CPU . . They're STILL there. What you have is exactly what I had before my 23H2 went totally bananas.
  11. Unable to Remove the Libraries in Explorer

  13. Unable to Remove the Libraries in Explorer

Hi Rollback_Jockey, That looked like a solution. I did a right-click/delete on them but "they all came back". (wasn't that a song?) Anyway, even after a re-boot, there they are (laughing at us). Thanks. It was a good try. Peter
  14. Unable to Remove the Libraries in Explorer

I've recently had to roll my system back to 21H2 (Build 22000 2538) and have been unable to remove unwanted objects in Explorer. I have tried . . . Remove_Libraries_from_navigation_pane_in_File_Explorer.reg and Remove_Quick_access_from_File_Explorer_Home_for_all_users.reg and several older...
