I've used FreeFileSync for the last eight years or so. It's free (though I do donate from time to time), it's reliable, it is fast, and it is actively maintained.
If you want to give OnlyOffice a quick try then there is a portable release available (scroll to the bottom of the page): ONLYOFFICE Portable | PortableApps.com
Hope this helps.
I don't think this is relevant to Windows 11 but just in case some 'internet strays' arrive here it is worth mentioning that LibreOffice 32-bit is coming to immanent end-of-life. The last TDF recommended build of LibreOffice for 32-bit Windows systems is version 25.2.7.2

The title makes my question clear (I hope).
I ask this because over the years Windows Update on one occasion on Windows XP and on one occasion on Windows 7 messed my system up by installing driver updates downloaded and installed by Windows Update. I was a pure novice a the time these events...
Well yes, that is what I am forced to do. But does anyone know why Windows is acting this way with these portable USB DVD drives?
I have now tried it with two such DVD drives and get the same result for both.
I just got a Portable USB DVD drive. However, I find that there is no way to eject it from the USB port on my computer. My screenshot here shows what the problem is.
In the end to remove the drive from the USB port it seems I just have to make sure the CD tray is empty and then just manually...

Now I'm thinking discretion might be the better part of valour so I'm wondering to let the woman create a Microsoft Account and be done at that.
Okay, glasskuter, I'll give that try and see what happens, but as you say, weird stuff can happen. I wouldn't be anxious about this but this is for a laptop that isn't mine. If it was for my own laptop I would do a clean install via Rufus and avoid all the MS rubbish that way — I did that for my...

For myself I've never found the Update Feature to work in any kind of logical way, so I abandoned it quite some time ago. To know when a new version is available just join the Announce Mailing List and you get auto-email informing on new releases.
Thank you so much for responding.
Can you say what "until afterward" means? Does that mean to switch off my Wi-Fi router before even switching the laptop on? And only switch on the Wi-Fi after entering the command start ms-cxh:localonly
I'm not clear on when to disable and when to enable the...
