It all depends on how many PCIe lanes your M.2 slot uses. I have a ASUS Z97-A and an NVME card (capable of full M2 Speed 4 lane) but it will only work on 2 lanes because the motherboard only supports 2 lanes instead of 4 on M2 slot. So in my case that means no faster than SSD. Like it depends.

Have 4790K all cores at 4,6 GHz for two years, still steps down (730MHz) I delided it and temps less than 80 on prime test. I would put it against a lot newer models like gen 6 or 7 and lower end 8s.

No i run 4790K continual at 2.5 Volts and 4.6GHz (delidded) all the time (idles) + 1660 GTX (un OCed) and still competes. Never BSDs. OCing the DTX is like putting lipstich on a pig.
