What do you mean by force reset? How? I think the intall died partway through. When the screen is blue there are no icons or start button. When the desktop image is visible there is a start button that does nothing and the gear icon on far rightwhich does nothing.

Well, I fixed my problem. I could not come up with an actual Windows fix (i.e. - registry, setting, etc). I installed ExplorerPatcher.exe and I now have ungrouped taskbar icons. It added the notification icon back but also allowed me to put my icons for network and volume into the hidden box...
