Right on! Im so happy the information was able to help you. MS Photos has a similar problem with non-indexed folders and displaying images full screen. Submitted a bug report for that one also on MS Feedback Hub.

From Explorer, does it matter from which folder(s) you open them from? If you place the workbook in a different folder is there any difference? Are the files stored in folders that sync to an online account such as OneDrive, DropBox etc?

WMP... Uncheck that box that says "Retrieve additional information from the internet" found in Options > Library I learned a while back that will rename files and alter tags and more often than not, it gets them wrong. On a new install I always make sure to uncheck that box before allowing WMP...

It will play them without any problem. Its just in the playlist/library it will say unknow artist, unknown album etc. It will display the file name so thats not an issue. I mentioned problem and fix in the Win 11 Player thread.
