  1. Solved After a UWP app is unpinned from Taskbar, its icon is replaced by a gray square

That gray square is gone! Yesterday when I started to try to unpin the gray square from the Taskbar, I tried a few times from the right-click menu of the gray square, and failed every time. Today I tried again, this time from the Shift + Right Click menu. I succeeded.
  2. Solved After a UWP app is unpinned from Taskbar, its icon is replaced by a gray square

Hello, I pinned the UWP "Realtec Audio Console" app to the Taskbar. Then I unpinned it. Its icon disappeared from the Taskbar, but was replaced by a gray square, by clicking which "Realtec Audio Console" can start. See this picture: I've tried the following to remove it, but no good. *...
  3. Use unique icon for each media file type while still associated with the UWP Media Player

And that's a great suggestion I have followed. I think all is well now, by Just defaulting to the legacy WMP.
  4. Use unique icon for each media file type while still associated with the UWP Media Player

On my Win11 Pro 24H2 PC, the (Default) value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi points to WMP11.AssocFile.AVI. Then the DefaultIcon sub-key under WMP11.AssocFile.AVI has a (Default) value whose data is the following Multi-String: %SystemRoot%\System32\wmploc.dll,-731 which is the avi icon that the...
  5. Use unique icon for each media file type while still associated with the UWP Media Player

OK. , Any way that's my second choice. Thank you. And, very nice icons.
  6. Use unique icon for each media file type while still associated with the UWP Media Player

Hi, In Windows 11 Pro 24H2, I'd like to keep using the UWP Media Player to be the default program to open media files. But can I change the icons of different media file types to be unique for each? In the Registry, I find, every media file type, such as .mp3, actually has its own unique...
  7. After Windows 11 boots into Desktop, icons on it get refreshed. Problem?

Goog to know that. Thanks Really no big deal. Just curious why explorer.exe needs to refresh the icons when there seems to be no activity that may trigger that. Well, maybe there is. Just hidden from me.
  8. After Windows 11 boots into Desktop, icons on it get refreshed. Problem?

Hi, On my Windows 11 Pro 24H2 PC, a few seconds after booting into the Desktop, all icons on the Desktop, except those of This PC and Recycle Bin, get refreshed once. No big deal. But is that normal? This does not happen on two laptops that I have and run on Windows 10. Other observations...
  9. Force Windows 11 to use NetBIOS to discover old SMB 1.0 devices in the LAN. Possible?

Thank you for providing a reminder. I think it's alright because the LAN is a very simple network with no important items. Thank you again.
  10. Force Windows 11 to use NetBIOS to discover old SMB 1.0 devices in the LAN. Possible?

Yes, I agree and can do that. I just don't understand why Windows 11 can't discover those old players using NetBIOS and SMB 1.0 when everything looks well-configured. Maybe it's because Window 11 needs to be forced to do that in some way?
  11. Force Windows 11 to use NetBIOS to discover old SMB 1.0 devices in the LAN. Possible?

May I infer from your remark that in terms of network discovery, Windows 11 now has no way to discover those old media players? And, if so, I can't help but wonder why NetBIOS and SMB 1.0 still exist in Windows 11 since both have been deprecated. Actually, if I type the UNC names of those old...
  12. Force Windows 11 to use NetBIOS to discover old SMB 1.0 devices in the LAN. Possible?

Hello, In my home LAN, there is a Window 11 Pro 24H2 PC and a few old media players which only support NetBIOS and SMB 1.0 under Linux. Any of them, PC or player, can access all the others' shares if I manually provide the UNC names: \\ComputerName or \\DeviceName. However, in terms of...
  13. Solved Registry Key TaskbarSi doesn't work anymore

OK, good to know that. No more need to spend more time researching. Thank you very much for your care and response.
  14. Solved Registry Key TaskbarSi doesn't work anymore

Hello, Ghot. I'm on Windows 11 Pro 24H2 and I also have the quesion that the OP has. In your instruction for the OP, you say:"Do Part B, here... then TaskbarSi will work again." I read the tutorial on ViveTool you mention above, but don't know what you mean by "Part B" (there is no part B)...
