I use Disk Cleanup, including system files, and it deletes windows old folder.

If TP link USB is Wifi 5 it is plug and play with window. If it is Wifi 6 you will have to install a driver which would be in the adapter.

I only use it to mount the image and retrieve a file or a folder. For the rest I use Macrium Image free. I note the thread is very old 2010. The restore does defragging. I do not know whether it is the case with the recent versions.
