This has been my experience. I use copilot extensively. For example I have been asking Copilot questions on my recovery from surgery. The answers given with references were later confirmed by the surgeon on follow up appointment.

I only use it to mount the image and retrieve a file or a folder. For the rest I use Macrium Image free. I note the thread is very old 2010. The restore does defragging. I do not know whether it is the case with the recent versions.

I am disconnected from the internet when the security is nuked.
Addendum. I did further reading with the help of co-pilot. The risk is not totally mitigated if I am not connected to the internet. However, it is minimal if I just mount the image retrieve some files and do nothing else.
