  1. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

I did away with MSI afterburner. The GPU doesn't take cat naps but it stutters or seizures randomly. FPS is a bit better and more stable. I set my FPS limit to match my refresh rate in a few games which also made a noticeable difference.
  2. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

It's not a thermal issue. I keep track of the fan speed religiously. The GPU hits about 77-80c while gaming while the Hotspot hits 95-99c. The Hotspot does tend to hit 103 sometimes so I dial down the power 5% which takes it back down to 95c. I installed a thick 140mm 6k rpm fan to suck in air...
  3. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

I use MSI afterburner which now that I think about it I've had issues with it crashing games in the past when it was out of date. I will disable it and use the AMD Adrenaline display.
  4. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

Crap... my games are all Steam and Gamepass. I guess that could be it.
  5. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

Ran Furmark just fine. Didn't trip, nap, skip, sleep, stutter, or crash. FPS was steady. The temps settled around 20 mins in and I will see issues in games within the first 5 mins. So now I'm completely dumbfounded. I do understand games have poor optimizations, I get that. It might be all in...
  6. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

Seems like almost any game I play has its own issues. Some slowly put the GPU to sleep, some it's a little nap, and others it's not too noticeable like Forza Horizon 5. It has gone on for a while, I just started to notice it more because I'm playing more types of games now that I'm on vacation...
  7. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

It's not a temp issue. I never let my hotspot go above 99c. The max temp for hotspot is 110-112c. I use MSI Afterburner and Gigabyte Control Center. Did all that. Made no difference.
  8. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

No I'm asking why does my GPU look like it's slowing down from time to time. Some games it will trip and get back up. Other games it takes a nap. I am not even playing but for a couple hours a day. I don't think it's about optimization, it seems like Windows or maybe a feature is telling the GPU...
  9. Why does my 7900xtx use less power in some games?

In Tempest Rising, which I understand is more of a CPU based game, it uses hardly any of my GPU once you build up a small army and doesn't recover unless in the pause menu. In other games such as Once Human or 007 First light it will play normally but randomly drop to these same low usage stats...
  10. Solved Gpu sometimes doesn't power on with boot.

I ran every benchmark there is. I stressed the GPU and CPU. Separately and together. I tortured the entire computer running at 100% on everything for an hour and it didn't have any issues. I have enough spare parts lying around to build another pc, except for the GPU, so I'm not too worried. I'm...
  11. Solved Gpu sometimes doesn't power on with boot.

Since my last post it hasn't had any issues after reseating the GPU. No, it has not shut off during gaming sessions. I did have a random hard restart because of a CPU issue. I think it was core 2, but that was a one time thing. I wasnt even gaming. I had 3 chrome tabs up and one was streaming a...
  12. Solved Gpu sometimes doesn't power on with boot.

I checked power and reseated. If that doesn't fix the issue I'll try a lower pci slot. If that doesn't work I'll start saving up for a new GPU. No I did not use the double ended single cable in case someone was going to ask. I just got done replacing my 5950x because that died and it was a...
  13. Solved Gpu sometimes doesn't power on with boot.

Sometimes my 7900XTX will not turn on the morning after I shut down. The PC boots but the RGB on the GPU isn't lit and there's no signal out. I know it boots just fine because I can hear the windows jingle. If I shut down and power down using the switch on the PSU this fixes the issue but I'm...
  14. Solved Updated BIOS. Boot loop freezing.

It was in fact the CPU. Replaced it and I'm back in business
  15. Solved Updated BIOS. Boot loop freezing.

Found a spare PSU lying around and decided to try that before I go to bed. No dice. Same exact symptoms. So I have definitely narrowed it down to either CPU or motherboard. I ordered both a couple days ago so I'll be back when I've had a chance to diagnose with those.
