I tried giving System Restore ample disk space (27.53 GB) but it uses only 15.53 GB. For the 15.53 GB, I get 7 Restore Points with the oldest being 18 days old, see screenshots below.
However, from a parallel thread, I think it is only commendable to restore the newest or second newest Restore...

Even with incremental/differential images the most recent update to user data is lost since the time the image was created.
The loss of the most recent update to user data is unfortunate because it is usually the most urgent in a daily/hourly work flow, e.g. if you have an important...
Well, he asked what AI cannot do for you. It's asking for a negative, like asking what color is not red :eek1:
Big data is unavoidable on the net :eek1:
The vast majority of users don't relocate user data, the relocation also has its downsides, e.g. if you need support then you get support from a small minority of experienced users (this is true for just about any personalization that you do)
I do back up my user data without relocation, a much...
Disk imaging is another tool in the toolbox indeed.
But one disadvantage of disk imaging is that you lose the most recent updates of user data from the time of creating the disk image.
System Restore does not have the disadvantage.
Sorry, folks! I think I messed up.
I think MS creates a Restore Point BEFORE executing a WU.
Hence, if a user gives an OK to a UAC, MS ought to
create a Restore Point BEFORE executing the subject of the UAC.
Of course, a script writer could do what MS does not do.
Anyway, food for thought...
Found it! It was @pseymour

But again, IMHO scripting effort would be better spent on 'after each app update' and not on 'weekly'
FWIW, I think that MS ought to do the work, i.e. create a Restore Point not...
It was me who asked for a script for creating weekly Restore Points, but in light of the present discussion, it would make more sense for the script to create a Restore Point after each app update.
It would require a hook into app updates and use it as a trigger to create the Restore Point...
