I am in a similar boat. I simply can't perform ANY scans on Defender as part way through it hangs and never progresses. I tried waiting but 6 hours later the progress bar hadn't budged and it was only partway through a quick scan. No matter what scan I attempt, Defender NEVER finishes it...
