Thanks or that, given though my PC is as slow as could be because of the bug with AMD CPU's I going to leave trying to sort this until Microsoft has sorted the issue.
Thanks but as I said I did manage to get to the point where I have the choice of 'Off' or 'On' but whichever I choose the bloody clock remains in the notification area which is so beginning to annoy me.

This OS is a nightmare and I can see Windows 10 being reinstalled.
Anyway after having to do a clean install I gained access to the explorer shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9}\SystemIcons and have turned the clock to off and on but still it remains in the notification area.
WTF...
I have tried all methods here but the damn clock remains. Very simple to remove in 10 but not 11.
