  1. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

I do not need re-writable, just reliable long term data storage. What modern storage solution can be put on a shelf or locked in a cabinet for 50+ years without degradation?
  2. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

We have some files that I never EVER want to lose. Digitized real estate stuff, family pictures, etc. I recently discovered something I didn't know.. the fact that DVD's do not last forever was quite surprising to me. So now I'm looking into something called an M-disc, which is...
  3. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

Yeah.. I've always run my computer that way too.. My operating system and unimportant files (audio books, downloaded movies, etc) are on my C drive, while my D drive carries all the important stuff.. and then that D drive gets backed up to a USB stick every now and then. My wife isn't...
  4. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

Thank you. I took her SSD and plugged it into my computer.. Not recognized by bios. Tried power cycling it by leaving power connected but removed SATA cable. 30 minutes, no change. Did some googling and they say to perform the power cycle 30 minutes with power, then 30 minutes without...
  5. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

Trying it now... 30 minutes left, 30 minutes left, take one down, pass it around, 29 minutes left.. tick tok.. tick tok..
  6. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

No.. I shut my machine down and plugged her bricked SSD into one of my SATA ports and rebooted. My machine's Disk Management shows nothing, nor does my own bios show it even being connected. I have a PCIe SSD and a SATA SSD in my machine, both show up fine.. but not her SSD. Was...
  7. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

The drive was purchased Sept 25, 2025 and installed in early December of 2025. The drive was her C drive with Windows 11 installed. No backup.. and I gave her a boat load of scolding about it since backing it up would have been as simple as transferring the important stuff to a USB drive...
  8. WD 500G SSD bricked after Microsoft update

I built a new desktop computer for my wife back in December. Installed Win11 operating system on a WD500 Blue SSD drive and all has been fine. Yesterday, her computer did a Windows 11 update. The first thing (symptom) that happened was she lost her internet connection. I had to go into...
  9. Help with selecting home router

I did disable it.. I went back to fast boot instead of super fast boot..
  10. Help with selecting home router

I don't think my bios has that option.
  11. Help with selecting home router

Hmm... I knew the function keys did a bunch of things but I've never used them regularly. My keyboard is as basic as it can get. How does that explain not being able to enter the bios upon boot? I can enter it just find in normal mode, but not when the bios is set to fast boot. Are...
  12. Help with selecting home router

See my response above.. Post #40
  13. Help with selecting home router

I tried them all.. Delete, F2, F8, F9, F12, Esc, and a few others.. You can google it, I'm not the only one complaining about the issue.
  14. Help with selecting home router

Before I updated my router's firmware, I was able to use it without agreeing to anything. I used it to basically spy on my child's computer use. The schools at her age group, are using google classroom, which itself is collecting and storing every bit of data on these kids. Of more...
  15. Help with selecting home router

The first glitch that comes to mind is that when I set my bios to fast boot, the F10 button stopped working to access bios. There is no way to access the bios settings when in superfast boot mode.. you have to go through windows troubleshooting in order to do it, which requires extra reboots.
