@Terence Like any new program there is a bit of a learning curve to navigate the various menus and options, but everything is there. Support is very responsive to any issues.
@Terence That version is quite old as HBS is now up to V5.8.2.1. There are no regression of features since your version, so newer is better. When you upgrade you should build a new Emergency Disk and update your Boot Menu.
It is the fundamental principle that is objectionable: something that was free or had a reasonable one-time cost is now subscription. If all commercial software moved to this model the total cost could get very expensive, e.g.,
- Windows $49/year
- Web browser $49/year
- password manager...
A workaround if you are confident with your backups and you have the time:
1. make a full backup of your system
2. restore the old image
3. create the VHD
4. restore the full backup
Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each old backup.
You could take the heavy-handed approach. From from Settings > Bluetooth & devices >Printers & scanner do an Add device > Add a new device manually > Add a printer using an IP address. Device type = TCP/IP Device. This will prevent it using the horrible Windows IPP device driver. This will add a...
Happy for you. That is not the standard price available to a new user, and even then the purchase needs to be timed carefully to hit a discount offer. If not the cost is four times that amount. Sorry, that is not a pittance.
Both PC's should be configured to be on Private network: Settings > Network & Internet > Properties. Then from Advanced network settings > Advanced sharing settings under Private networks Network discovery and File and printer sharing must be on.
May also need to set folder sharing.
There is a compromise with any variant solution. In you case it appears that you are booting the rescue disk on each PC, which is a workable solution. But that is far less efficient or convenient than a scheduled backup task running unattended in each PC.
There is nothing wrong with a scheduled backup, just not only the C: drive.
If something does not work for you then why keep using it. This is like saying my head hurts when I hit it against the wall, but I am going to keep hitting against the wall in case that is not why it hurts.
Why wait? It is EOL and not being maintained, so switching to a more current program that is maintained seems to be the sensible move going forward. Having an MR recovery USB will allow you to restore an old backup if an emergency arises.
Yes, got it and ignored it. My objective is more stability after the rough April patch Tuesday. Insider builds and panel participate is not good for short term reliability.
You have MR but have you been using it? If you have then do an MR image restore to a date prior to when the wi-fi issue started.
If not, then do an image copy of the System (1st 3 or 4 partitions), and the D:\ drive.
First step in trying to fix the wi-fi problem would be to use the device...
