Problem solved. Indexing got worse, with it stalling and taking 2 days to index 30,000 files - something it should be able to do in an hour or so. Read that reinstalling Win 11 in "save Apps and Files" mode could fix the slow indexing problem. It has not finished indexing as I write this but...
I have seen many times the good advice to do a clean install. It is such a hassle that I have avoided it - to my detriment. I really DO appreciate all the time and effort people have devoted to helping with this problem.
the idea of going to the rtf filter seemed brilliant and should have worked. sadly, it didn't. i was able to assign the rtf filter, and it showed up on the file types tab. i the rebuilt the entire index. no luck. still appreciate the suggestion
