Hi All,

Currently on 22000.1281 (21H2 I believe). Not sure which patch it was but in the last few weeks my machine just shuts down when ever it goes to sleep. I've tried tweaking advanced power setting, setting hibernation to off, making the sure the hard disk doesn't go to sleep etc but I'm still struggling.

Hoping to install 22H2 directly from the MS site, Download Windows 11, and do a fresh install whilst keeping all my files. Effectively just forcing the 22H2 install.

I assume I just go with the first option, the Installation Assistant? I'm not looking to wipe my drive and start from scratch so I don't suppose I need a bootable drive/ iso?

I've had similar issues in the past with updates wrecking power management settings so just hope this will do the trick and that's not a hardware issue.

Any help would once again be appreciated.

Rob

Upgrade to 22H2...

Probably the easiest way (other than waiting on Windows Updates), to upgrade to 22H2 is this.
Use Option #2 (this link), to get the 22H2 ISO image, save it to your desktop.

Then use that ISO image to do an In-Place Upgrade to 22H2.

Here is the short version of the In-Place Upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.
Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.
The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

After you've upgraded to Windows 11 22H2, run Windows Updates to get the latest version.
When that's done, make a fresh backup.

Yeah, the latter. Checked power settings and advanced power settings. All seems to be fine there. Has only become an issue in the last few weeks after one the patches.

And that happens while the laptop is plugged in?
Because if it is unplugged and the battery level cannot keep the laptop powered up, it will definitely shut down.

PLugged in, unplugged etc. Yeah same issue.
I see.
Do you keep Macrium Image backup? Because if you have a backup image that doesn't have the issue, you can just restore it and then update to 22H2 from there.

Unfortunately I dont have any image back ups, just file back ups. Now seem to be struggling with the ISO and installing that, get 'your PC doesn't meet the minimum requirements bit. TPM 2.0 is enabled and I've already got 11 21H2 running so I'm not sure what I'm missing?

I did the reset, from the cloud and kept files. I successfully resolved many Win11 update issues. I tried the .iso method with MS Support but popup said drive inaccessible, machine kept looping and would not load files.

Thanks @CharmaineK, good idea. Need to get all my files uploaded to my google drive.

Okay, am on 22H2. Issue persists. Anyone got any ideas? Just hoping it's not hardware related.

Are you able to reset your OS while keeping apps and files? And then you can upgrade from there.

Still struggling. Wondering if it's now not a hardware issue as I seem to have to depress the power fully for a few seconds to get it to turn off then turn back on. CMOS battery issue maybe or another power management problem?

I don't remember ever having a Windows computer that I didn't have to hold the power button for a few seconds to turn off the computer. I only do this in an extreme emergency and only on computers that don't have a restart button. There is a risk of corrupting files.
