Windows 11 Pro
Desktop computer has been running Windows 11 without issues. Since the installation last week of 22H2 I am seeing some strange permission problems but not for all applications. I use Photomatix Pro 6 to process RAW photo files. When it tries to save the modified file (after conversion from RAW to JPG) I get "Unauthorized changes blocked Controlled folder blocked". The same thing happens when I tried to download and save a photo from Facebook. I do not have the same issue with Canon Digital Photo Professional 4. Prior to the 22H2 update I did not have any issues with running these applications and saving files.

My desktop has a Primary Hard Drive C:/ 512 GB ADATA XPG SX8200PNP PRO M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD with Windows and all programs. The secondary drive is D:/ 2 TB Hard Drive -- 256MB Cache, 7200RPM which stores Downloads, Documents and Picture folders.

Any thoughts why only some programs are having problems with saving files and where I need to look and modify a permission?

Hello, and welcome. :-)

It sounds like your Pictures folders is protected by Controlled Folder Access.

You could either remove the folder from being affected, or add allowed apps to be able to access this folder.

I started having the same issue on 2 folders in my OneDrive before the latest Win11 update. Strange as I saved files to those folders without issue in the past. I went into settings to allow access (turned toggle to OFF). I still see the blocked files under Protection History; however, I am now able to save files both documents and photos to those locations. No issues with saving files to any of the other folders in my OneDrive and one my local machine.

Select Start > Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings. Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access. Switch the Controlled folder access setting to Off.
