23H2 22631. 4391 Opening pages

I am not a good typer, so I depend upon voice to type a lot.
I use Chrome sometimes and then other times I use Edge. I notice Edge does not have a default box where you can type the search.
I have tried following the directions on my computer and from my phone, but nothing seems to work to get Google as the default start for Edge.
Luckily and incidentally, I clicked on Edges opening page to the left of the address bar where there is a little house indicating home page and that was what I was looking for as I saw a Google dialogue box.
I would prefer to do it the right way if you could please tell me how to do it.

Can't say about the voice part but in Edge I click the + at the right end of the Tabs and just start typing in the Address bar.

When open, Edge says ,"Open (co pilot)" after dialogue box and start upper left.

You also state that you tried following directions that you fail to mention.

If the following doesn’t work then I don’t know what is wrong with Edge. Make the home page Google Search page.


Also, just so you know, the address bar in most browsers is also actually a search bar. You can use it to search like a Google search box.

To change the default search engine that the Edge address bar uses, follow this.

Select Settings and more > Settings . Select Privacy, search, and services. Scroll all the way down to the Services section and select Address bar and search. Choose your preferred search engine from the Search engine used in the address bar menu.

Antspants, thanks, I did as you say which I got from Google to no avail. I can live with the house to type.
It will be fun searching.

My missunderstanding of how voice works I think.

I just thought that wherever the cursor is, you could speak to type.
In my experience, the cursor focus is usually in the addressbar.
In Firefox you can set the focus to be in the search box.

I could have made this a lot simpler by telling you I was looking for microphone to search like Chrome has instead of typing..

@Maranna bear with me here. I've done a bit of investigating and testing. Follow this and you should be set:

Add this extension to Edge


Click on "Get"




Click on "Add Extension"



A box will pop up, click on "Turn On"




The Edge Add-On settings will open. Toggle the switch to "ON"




Open a New Tab and the following page will open
Click on "Keep Changes"
Enter your preferred page in the URL section
e.x. https://www.google.com
Click on "Save"





You will get a confirmation




Click on a New Tab in Edge

You should see the Microphone/Voice icon.
