Hi everyone,

I just did an in-place upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2. I am trying to download a cumulative update (KB5044284) from Windows Update, but I get the error 0x80070005.

Can anyone help?

Cheers :)

This is just my opinion, but you probably should count your blessings.
The bugs in here that are mentioned in many posts come from updates, post your (and my) current build of 26100.1742

I might try downloading directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog. I am not surprised I'm not alone in this.

Thanks.

Sure, a good way to go. But what I meant was that KB5044284 introduces bugs to Windows.

I read that they fixed it in one of the insider builds so shouldn’t be long. How or if you’re able to update if you haven’t got KB5044284, Swerd, I am not 100% sure.

I should mention, the bugs have to do with misread storage sense space and SFC/DISM issues, a few other things. So not sure if it’s that worrying.

I’ll let someone else advise 🙏

You might also want to try KB5044384 to go to 26100.2152. I have installed that build manually using the KB5044384 installer and had no problems with it installing except for one machine where another problem was found and resolved which allowed smooth install.

Note that KB5044384 is an incremental update meant to be applied to 26100.1742 or newer. If you are pre-1742 you will need to first install the KB5043080 checkpoint update to take you to 26100.1742.

Note also that KB5044384 is not available from Microsoft update. You can start a download of build 2152 using UUP Dump. In the set of files that it downloads, search for KB5044384 and that will give you the standalone installer for that update.
