A difficult driver-related problem

I have a problem with being unable to switch on the Windows Memory Integrity function, which is apparently related to drivers, hence the reason I am posting it in this part of the forum.

To summarise, I have had Microsoft spending several hours trying to fix the problem, followed by the laptop manufacturer (PC Specialist) also trying to resolve the issue over a further 1-2 hours. In the end, I did a clean re-install of Windows 11, which seemed to fix the problem, but this morning, it had returned.

I have a thread open on another support forum, which contains the full details of what I have summarised above, including screen captures. Q: Would it be OK to post a link to the other forum, rather than my having to try to explain it all again from scratch? I won't do anything until I've received permission from the moderators to do this.

It seems many are having the same problem with various drivers - in my case it’s to do Roxio media suite. Some have suggested Microsoft are trying to force developers to pay to have their drivers verified which is something they’ve tried before & this is why the problem is occurring.
The general suggestion is to turn off memory integrity until Microsoft fix the problem or uninstall the specific file/driver/program which is causing the problem.

The strange thing about my situation is that I have no idea what programs are using the drivers and also, I don't have anything on my laptop, the one with the problem, that I don't have on my main laptop and that doesn't have a problem with the Memory Integrity function.

I had to search the internet for file to discover the program connected to it. You could try that if you haven’t already.

Have you ever connected a Western Digital USB drive to your laptop? Some of them install a driver that interferes with the Windows Memory Integrity function.

For me it's the Creative drivers...I need my Soundblaster. I've lived without Core Isolation/Memory integrity since Windows for Workgroups 3.11, so I think I'll be okay without them.

I have an unorthodox solution.

Just don't use Memory Integrity or Core Isolation for at least a few years.
Wait till they get all the bugs worked out, and tons of work-arounds are available.

Neither one will turn out to be the final solution. They are more like stop gaps until they build the real solution into Windows.
IMO, neither of these should be user items. They should either be baked into the OS, or not.

That is exactly what happened to me. So until MS or WD resolves this issue, every time I do a disk image using the WD USB removable drive, I will need to remove that driver every time to get memory integrity back. I'm sure every time I connect the WD drive, that driver gets reinstalled. Other option would be to maybe get a different brand of a removable drive to do backups. Luckily for me, the WD driver was the only issue.

In my case it is about my Logitech Webcam 270 drivers. The drivers are installed by the Win11 system itself. Did try to upgrade drivers by downloading the drivers from Logitech, but is not reflected in the Device manager. I left it at that.

The laptop that I am having the problem with had a clean install of Windows (Cloud download option) a couple of days ago and nothing has been connected to it since then. I do use a WD external drive on my laptops (once a month for manual Macrium disc image backups), but so far it hasn't been run on the laptop with the problem.

I removed the driver and used Windows Update MiniTool to block it. You can also use wushowhide.diagcab from MS to block the driver from being reinstalled. Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks or Download wushowhide - MajorGeeks. If you decide to use wushowhide you might have to give the file permission to download.

From what I found by doing a lot of online searches is that it has to do with using the WD software to encrypt the drive.

Hello, :-)

If you like, you could use option 4, 5, or 6 below to uninstall the incompatible drivers to be able to turn on Memory Integrity afterwards.

Otherwise, it may be best to leave Memory Integrity turned off until the bugs are worked out.

Not really. There's no mention of Sentinel LDK in the list of installed programs and I cannot find any reference to hardlock in the list of services so I cannot stop it.
I was going by what you posted on the other forum. Do you know the name of the driver that is causing the problem?

tI seems to be several according to Windows (there's a list on the other forum). I've just found that I can rename them in safe mode, so I'm going to add the suffix .OLD to each one in turn and see what happens. If it all goes pear-shaped, I should be able to restore everything from today's Macrium Reflect disc image backup.

Definitely worth a try. Don't forget to make sure you have a working backup image before making any changes.
