Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect

I see a lot of members using Macrium to create back ups or clones, my license for Acronis is coming to an end so thoughts between the 2? Macrium has a free version, is it any good?

I myself currently use Acronis 2018 since it still functions very well under the latest version of Windows 10.

That said, most here use and swear by Macrium so if you really want a somewhat unbiased opinion of whether you should stick to Acronis or not, I'm afraid you'll have to visit the Acronis forums.

With that I've found Macrium a little easier to create system images; however Acronis is still and will continue to be my everyday backup program.

Cheers for the reply, I've just kinda solved the dilemma as my Acronis 2021 license is apparently a perpetual one so I will continue with what I know

I have used Acronis in the past and always had trouble with it and hated it. That was a number of years back though, but I have little trust for it.

Macrium Reflect on the otherhand. I have done hundreds of restores without any problems and it is much easier to use than Acronis was.

Your question was: is Macrium free any good. I can't compare Acronis, as I don't use it.

Yes, Macrium free is very good, and probably enough for average user. But official latest version (8) isn't out yet as the free version.

I have been using Acronis since Drive Image went to Symantec and they totally destroyed it.
It's a great product except they like to add features (bloatware) like Ransomware prevention. The 2021 version is the same as 2017 but without the ransom ware junk. I have 2021 but I have PS to remove the junk so it works fine very well for me. Tried it with Win 11 and had no issues.

Can you clone a disk onto a smaller size disk with Macrium? for example clone an original 500gb SSD onto a 256 SSD as Acronis allows this

Yes, Macrium free is very good, and probably enough for average user. But official latest version (8) isn't out yet as the free version.

Since Macrium's site had downloading issues last night I was able to download the newest v8.0.6036 free version from here: Macrium Reflect Free

It beat Acronis on sheer speed when I cloned the disk, so far so good, version 8 is now free

I used Acronis 2010 all through Windows 7. Tried Acronis 2016 on Win 10, and decided to look elsewhere.
I found Macrium Reflect and never looked back.

Honestly, my favorite backup software of all time was Norton Ghost 2003.
No Service, and the only time it ran a process was when you ran the program.
Had 3 buttons. Backup, Restore and Utilities (verify and media builder).
Unfortunately, it didn't work on anything after Win XP. :(


You might like AOMEI Backupper. It's sort of like Acronis lite. And it's also free.

Ghot is right on the money. I disabled them. I can't compare speed but Acronis is reliable and I am sure Macrium is. I will us it for my small home clients.

Does Macrium have a restore from GUI?

Yeah.
Macrium will do anything Acronis will do, and even a few things Acronis can't do. :-)
