Personalization Add or Remove Folders under This PC in File Explorer in Windows 11

  • Staff
This_PC_banner.png

Starting with Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160 for some, Microsoft is introducing a refreshed layout of the left navigation pane in File Explorer which makes it easy for you to navigate to folders that matter to you.

Known Windows Folders which are available by default in the navigation pane are no longer displayed under This PC to keep that view focused for your PC’s drives.

If you like, you can add the 3D Objects, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and/or Videos folder(s) back under "Folders" in This PC.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the 3D Objects, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and/or Videos folder(s) under This PC in File Explorer for all users in Windows 11.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove folders under This PC in File Explorer.

This tutorial will only work if you have the new File Explorer with tabs and navigation updates starting with Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160 for some.

No way to change it :( My main issue with Quick Access in the navagation pane is that you don't have arrows next to the folders so you can't see a list of folders inside while under This PC in the navagation pane you could.

I found a workaround below that you could check to see if it may work for you. It will add your user profile folder to the navigation pane that will include these folders with arrows.

Thank you if i was to stick with this, is there anyway to keep the arrow open on User profile folder so each time I open explorer I don't have to click it manually too see my folders, maybe something in regedit could do the trick

Would this work for D Drive aswell? :)

It would need to be modified to have a unique GUID and change the "TargetFolderPath" for the "D" drive, but basically same principle.

I'll add a tutorial for it tomorrow to help.

I'm not aware of a registry setting for that yet, but can verify a separate "D drive" like the "C drive" above will open the same way as last closed.
