Personalization Add or Remove Home in Navigation Pane of File Explorer in Windows 11

  • Staff
Home_banner.png

Quick access in the navigation pane of File Explorer (Win+E) allows you to quickly access and view your pinned locations, frequent folders, and recent files from one location in Quick Access.

Starting with Windows 11 build 22593, Quick access is now called Home. The name Quick access has been repurposed for the pinned/frequent Folders section and Pinned files is now called Favorites to align with Office and OneDrive. Recent and pinned files displayed in Home are now searchable using the search box in File Explorer even if they are not local files, so you can find Office files recently shared with you.
  • Quick access = Displays up to 11 folders that you pinned or frequently opened on the system.
  • Favorites = Pinned files.
  • Recent (Recent files) = Displays up to 25 files that you most recently opened.
This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Home in the navigation pane of File Explorer for all users in Windows 11.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove Home in the navigation pane.

Removing Home from the navigation pane will not clear the history of your frequent folders and recent files.

Contents

  • Option One: Add or Remove Home in Navigation Pane of File Explorer except in Common Dialog Boxes
  • Option Two: Completely Add or Remove Home in Navigation Pane of File Explorer

I used this technique on my HP Pavillion 15-cc1xx and it removes the file association with File Explorer when the 1 is changed to a 6 in the DWORD. A restart is required to see the effect.

Hello, and welcome to Eleven Forum. :-)

As a test, make sure you have File Explorer set to open to "This PC" instead of "Quick access" to see if that stops this from happening.

I just upgraded to 22581.1 and Quick Access is back. I ran the remove reg file again and restarted Explorer, but it's still there. ("Pin to Quick Access" is back as well)

I guess they broke it again? If you happen to find a new way to remove them, it'd be greatly appreciated.

--Edit--
I'm an idiot, ignore me... I ran the reg file to remove "Pin to Quick Access" not the one to actually remove Quick Access. All fixed.

Hello, :-)

Yes, you can. A change at either of those locations will be applied to both locations.
