Browsers and Mail Add or Remove Sidebar in Microsoft Edge

  • Staff
Microsoft_Edge_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the sidebar in Microsoft Edge for your account or all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The Microsoft Edge web browser is based on Chromium and was released on January 15, 2020. It is compatible with all supported versions of Windows, and macOS. With speed, performance, best in class compatibility for websites and extensions, and built-in privacy and security features.

The sidebar in Microsoft Edge lets you access tools and features side-by-side within your browser, even as you navigate between tabs. From being able to search specifically within the page you’re viewing, to using tools to do quick math without opening another tab, Microsoft found a way to help you be more productive without losing your place as you browse.

The sidebar appears on the right side of Microsoft Edge, and includes apps like Search, Microsoft Shopping, Tools, Games, and Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Drop by default you can add and remove.

You can also add and remove sites like your current page and/or top sites on the sidebar.

When you hover or click/tap on the Copilot toolbar icon or press the Ctrl + Shift + . keys to open Copilot, the sidebar will show while Copilot is open even if "Always Show Sidebar" is turned off.

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 If Microsoft Edge is currently open, then close and reopen Microsoft Edge to apply.

8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink

I just received an Edge update, and it is showing me all these new features, including Edge Bar.
But they omitted one important bit of information about Edge Bar. Where do you find it?
Even after clicking "Learn More", it doesn't tell you.

Yes, I mentioned it in my post #3 but it's a test. I can only think they're thinking of using Sidebar and removing Edge bar at a later date??

Thanks for the info. It's interesting to see that it appears twice. One named Sidebar, and one named Edge Bar. :D

Edge bar and Show sidebar are for two different features.
Edge bar is on the right of the desktop separate from the actual browser, now replaced with a new type of Edge bar in the middle of the desktop. 🤣
The sidebar is on the right of the Edge browser window.

I have 3 PCs at the same Build level 22000.856 and Edge version 104.0.1293.54.
Only one has the sidebar. No idea why they are different with the same version of Edge and Windows. 🤷‍♂️
Typical MS inconsistency, never know how and when they roll out the features.
Yet, if I use the Beta version of Edge then all 3 machines have the sidebar.

This PC has the feature, while 2 other PCs at the same exact level do not.

You now Auto-hide or always show the sidebar in Microsoft Edge 111.

You can hover on or click/tap on the Bing toolbar icon to show the sidebar when auto-hide is turned on or always show sidebar is turned off.

Hello.
I have Windows 11 pro.
Microsoft Edge Chromium x64 Version 111.0.1661.41.
After searching many websites to remove sidebar from Microsoft Edge. I have come across this forum.
I have opted for the three and it does not solve anything, and then I have opted for the fourth option, point 3 "Always Turn Off Sidebar and Discover Bing Toolbar icon in Microsoft Edge for All Users".
I have downloaded the .reg file, activated it, restarted Windows and launched Microsoft Edge and the sidebar and Bing sign are gone.
All perfect.
Thank you very much @Brink.
