Referring to the screen shot below ... covers a wide range of useful tips and tricks. Where I am, the word 'trick' without more can have a negative connotation, adding 'useful' makes the whole statement look better, IMHO (y)

Hi Haydon,

I would agree and I'd remove 'tricks' it does sound somewhat negative. Workarounds wouldn't fit, solutions maybe. A percentage of the tut's are solutions.

"covers a wide range of useful tips and solutions."

Sounds more positive.

Dunno, English is not my mother tongue, but I believe 'tips and tricks' is how you use English, like 'Home & Garden - Tips and Tricks'. Just that home and garden are completely non-mysterious to the general public, whereas computers are somewhat mysterious to the general public > got to be more careful with the latter :eek1:

This might clear matters, a quote from Word Reference #6 :
A tip is a bit, a small piece, of advice.

A trick in this context (it has several other meanings) is a clever, perhaps unusual or highly original way to do something.

The reference to "other meanings" is if you look up 'trick' in a dictionary.

This link Can anyone tell me the difference between tip and trick? covers both sides of the street from:
tip = advice on how to do something better, trick = a method to do something better......... keep it simple!
To the dictionary meanings.

English is not my mother tongue
It is mine although it's highly salted with a coal-cracker brogue. Coalspeak
