yeah, that rumored pricing looks good. Eagerly anticipating seeing how the new chips stack up and fare once it's out in the wild. I still absolutely love my 5900x, but it's going on 2 generations behind with the launch of this new product. Crazy how time flies.

Benchmarks look good. Power consumption and heat is outstanding compared to other brands. Expecting a boost in gaming when the X3d versions oft he chips drop. Would be good enough for my gaming needs, that is for sure.

Where have you seen those benchmarks? Most reviewers were disappointed with the Zen 5 results. Maybe the X3D versions will be better but we will have to wait and see how good they are.

Last Thursday at 9:00am I came close to ordering a Ryzen 9700 CPU. Now I am going to wait and decide later.

Techpowerup reviewed these new AMD processors. Here's a couple of charts of the performance in apps and games for the 9950X. Definitely not sparkling in games and a bit quicker in applications compared to the previous generation.





For me compared with a 13900K, 6-7% faster in apps the 9950x wouldn't be worth it. Would also be costly here in New Zealand to buy new CPU, mobo and probably ram.

Puget Systems have published an in-depth review of the new 9000 series AMD processors. They're a bit lukewarm on these new additions to the CPU market when used for content creation.

Overall, the new AMD Ryzen 9000 Series Processors are a bit of a mixed bag. In many workflows, they perform effectively the same as the previous generation (albeit at a lower TDP in many cases), while in others they are significantly faster.

Just recently got an Ryzen 7 7700X, so 1 Generation behind i think, but thats ok, as i didn't feel like being early adopter on Ryzen 9000 Series lol for my first ever Ryzen.

So far enjoying it very well, still alot to learn about Ryzen platform, but so far its been enjoyable

I think overall the benchmarks are okay on the new series of chips. For all out gaming, the x3d model will be better. If you were in it just for gaming right now, the 7800x3d is the chip to get.

They do have substantially lower power consumption and heat. And they are about 15% better than 14900 on productivity tasks. I think some reviewers just expected them to demolish the previous generation but that's getting harder and harder to pull off especially with clock drops to deal with heat output and power consumption.

I am jealous. I have been using AMD CPUs for over 25 years. My first may have been an AMD K6-2 300 Socket 7 CPU in 1998.

In 2017 (at Ryzen launch) I bought a Ryzen 7 1700X with an ASUS Prime X370-Pro motherboard. Three years ago I replaced the CPU with a Ryzen 7 3700X. The motherboard is supposed to support up to a Ryzen 9 5950X but I didn't think it was worth it for a first generation Ryzen motherboard.

I came close to buying a Ryzen 7 9700X. I even had one in the cart at B&H Photo Video on launch day. I then realized the embargo had been lifted the day before for reviewers to report on results for the Ryzen 5 9600 and Ryzen 7 9700. When I saw the reviews I was really disappointed by the results. I took the Ryzen 7 9700 out of the cart.

Last Wednesday I saw a review for the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X. Now I don't know if even they would be an option. The reviewer said that maybe an X3D version might be worth waiting for. I don't know.

Earlier this year I had been thinking about getting a Ryzen 7 7700X but wanted to wait until I saw what Zen 5 offered. Now I may get the Ryzen 7 7700X after all. Now I have to see what motherboard would be good to go with it.

BTW, comments on your motherboard and anything else in your system?

Well Motherboard that came with the system is MSI Pro B650 VC WIfi, it seems to work well for all i need, includes 6 Sata Ports, 2 M.2 Slots, plenty of USB ports for my needs--

((Keep in mind it was a Prebuilt from Ibuypower as i'm not good at building from installing CPU, and Cooler, and Motherboard, and all that into a case)) I happened to see this Ready built with specs i wanted, and jumped at it, and Case i wanted for better Airflow--i was like going for that one, though i didn't know this case was heavy as it is, but i'll just have to manage with it

The Cooler IBuypower used does seem to keep it pretty cool in most tasks, (Air cooling) which i wanted, terrified of AIO cooling due to risk of leaking and dying on me, at least with Air Cooler, typically only the fan itself would die at some point, but that should be easy replaceable hopefully

Hence why planning tomorrow hopefully First Clean Install on this Prebuilt/Hopefully the ei config file does install Windows 11 Pro lol that i bought thru MS Store around August 1st lol, do have digital license to Pro linked to MS Account, as don't really want Home lol


But for this topic, i might consider Ryzen 9000 processor to replace possibly 3rd Household PC thats been in use since 2011, AMD A6 Liano APU A6-3620 lol

BTW, I expect the 2011 PC with the A6-3620 to probably have hard drives. If so replacing the hard drives with a SATA SSDs would make a big difference. That is what I found when I replaced the hard drives with SSDs in my two older desktops.

My motherboard only has 1 x M.2 slot. It stated with a 500GB M.2 NVME SSD and 2 x hard drives. I replace the original SSD with a 2TB M.2 NVME SSD. I installed a PCIe card so I could add a 2nd 2TB M.2 NVME SSD. I also removed both hard drives.

I built this Ryzen desktop in 2017. It has a Corsair H60 AIO water cooler. I have a 2nd desktop (AMD FX8350 CPU) that also has Corsair H60 AIO water cooler. I added that cooler back in February 2012. Sure there is a chance of the water cooler leaking but I think the risks are highly exaggerated.

When I built my Ryzen desktop in April 2017 I installed Windows 10 Pro on it. I did the free upgrade to Windows 11 Pro in November 2021. I didn't like it so I went back to Windows 10 Pro.

I bought a new laptop in November 2022. It has a Ryzen 7 6800H CPU. It came with Windows 11 Home. In May 2023 I bought a Windows 11 Pro license. I upgraded the laptop to Windows 11 Pro.

With the experience of using Window 11 on my laptop I decide I would try again the free upgrade on my Ryzen desktop again. In January 2024 I upgraded it to Windows 11 Pro. This time there was no going back.

BTW, there has many debates on this and other forums on whether to buy Windows from official or unofficial sources. I bought Windows 10 Pro for about $200 from an official source and Windows 11 Pro for about $22 from an unofficial source. There are many unofficial source online for Windows. I have never read of any attempt by Microsoft to do anything about them. Many people like me think it is a personal choice in this manner. At least until Microsoft says otherwise.
