The two instances that you mention consume about 500MB total of my RAM. However, my system has 32GB installed. (Not bragging. I'm not exceptional.)

Yes, I saw this in Windows 10 as well. It happened when I was running some benchmarking software that allocated a lot of memory. I had it off and on - I believe it was dependent on the antimalware version. I couldn't find a way to fix it - sorry.

Well, i never had the Antimalware run two instances at the same time when i was in Win 10. It seems normal for everyone so, still thank you for responding.

Notice the ... in the second one? expand the name column and you'll see they aren't the same name, the second one says Antimalware Service Executable Content Process.

I'm seeing this too, after Joining the "Insider" program today and upgrading from Win-10 to Win-11.

As a result my "at rest" memory consumption is now 28%, where it was just 22%. There's also a new entry in the Task Manager list named "Microsoft Teams (Preview) (7)" that's consuming over 112mb of RAM. I'm thinking this has something to do with the Windows Insider program.

At any rate, the extra Antimalware program, and the Microsoft Teams program, are the reasons for the additional memory consumption.

Not a complaint. Just an observation.

Defender is not the lightest AV in terms of memory, but some AVs take more than 1GB overall.

I know there are many user who swear by Windows Defender. I'm not one of them. I have been using ESET Internet Security on all of my devices for years. I'm using ESET on my two desktops and one laptop that are all running Windows 11 with out any problems. My wife's laptop is the only computer running Windows Defender. She only plays MS games and uses Zoom for her group meetings with her center and once a month doxy.me to talk with her therapist. She doesn't surf the web or do email so I don't see a need to install another security program on her computer.

Regardless of issue 4GB is very tight for W10 - you should upgrade to 8GB minimum to avoid excessive paging.

Good for you! With my laptop`s specs I wouldn`t even dare install any third party security software not even on win 10.

I know, if my laptop`s memory aint soldered to the mount i would`ve already done it. Im going to format back to Win 10 21H2 after it`s public release.

Defender does seem to affect different PCs differently.
I have seen it being very heavy on resources and have had to disable it on some machines.

I see mine even higher. the first row never been lower than 100.
You might consider upgrading your RAM as suggested above and stay dual channel. 4 GB RAM put the system disk on excessive pagging that slows down the system.

I'm on 22000.194 and I can't upgrade on the latest because of the (almost impossible to get) TPM and a incompatible CPU.

You might consider upgrading your RAM as suggested above and stay dual channel. 4 GB RAM put the system disk on excessive pagging that slows down the system.
See post 14. His RAM is soldered, not socketed.

----------------------[BACK-TO-TOPIC]------------------------
I had that in my build eating 200-300MB of ram in idle. That on my 4GB, HDD machine.
Chrome (ElevenForum open, no extensions enabled) eats less than 187MB of RAM.
