Solved Anyone else running Edge Canary? Mine crashes.

All was good until today. Updated to 113.0.1732.0. Canary crashes on opening. I only have a couple of addons, IDM and Roboform but it won't stay open long enough for me to disable them to see if that's the issue. Anyone else experiencing this?

Safe mode?

I didn't know that wireless wouldn't work in safe boot, but it didn't matter. In safe boot, Canary still closed as soon as I opened it.
I then uninstalled and reinstalled it. It automatically installed the same extensions. And it works fine now.
Guess todays update had corrupted something.

I've always had ethernet, but I think a squirrel got in my attic and chewed my ethernet cable that runs the length of the house into my office. It killed my AP router and all 3 wired computers running off it. I moved the router into the next room where I had another ethernet cable and have had to resort to running wireless now on the three computers here in my office.

I tried safe boot w/ networking and also tried selective startup with safe boot/networking. No wireless access on either.
I just read that wireless does not work in safe boot until one connects to network before logging in but haven't tried that.
Tell me something @Ghot, is there no other way to have wireless working in safe boot?

I've never used wireless in my life.
I know one and only one thing about wireless and that's... use Ethernet.

Change this topic to unsolved, or make a new topic and I'm sure you'll get some wireless aficionados.

I totally agree and always have used it. But the damned squirrel that is terrorizing us didn't care. I wired the house with cat6 before we had additional insulation blown in. But that was years ago and now I'm in no shape to crawl around in the attic anymore. All the ceiling joists are hidden by the insulation now and since the knee surgery I'm not very nimble. With vaulted ceilings I would be an accident looking for a place to happen if I got up there again. So now it's wireless or nothing.

That's what college kids are for.

Obviously I don't know how it was originally installed, but if it was just laid up there, you can tape a new Ethernet cable to the old one, and use the old one to "pull" the new one through.

Home Depot sells the cable, the crimper and the RJ-45 jacks.



There are other ways to run the cable as well.
Under the house (if possible).
In the basement (cellar).
Along the siding (outside) (use exterior rated cable).

In most cases, the only weird tool you may need is a 12" long drill bit.

An interesting attic method is to use a small crossbow, and some construction twine attached to the bolt.
Shoot the bolt into the nearest rafter, then use a coat hanger to pull the twine down.
Then use the twine to pull the cable through.


There's all kinds of tricks for pulling cable through strange places.


Long pull through conduit, no problem.
Have one person spritz the cable with water/dish soap, while the other person pulls.

Have to pull a cable behind sheet rock or paneling. Use a heavy "nut" on construction twine, and lower that down through the wall. When you get to the bottom, pull the twine out with a coat hanger.


Long, long ago, I worked for a company called Where Ends Meet.
All we did, all day long, every day was pull cable. Big cable, little cable... etc.
One story, ten stories... in didn't matter... we pulled it.


It's always easy to run cable when a place is being built.
But it's actually fun doing it after the fact. When you have to figure out HOW to do it.

No issues to report with Canary Version 113.0.1732.0.
Quite a few extensions installed, including my own, I hope a repair (which is a full re-install anyway) will fix things.

Nope...v1732 crashes after startup...tried repair install...no joy...then tried uninstall/reinstall...no joy still crashes about 3 - 5 seconds after startup.
Note: I did not remove the browsing history when uninstalling.

Update: Second try - uninstall AND remove browsing history then reinstall - "Joy" no crashing. However the favorites require some (albeit minimal) correcting to get back to the original layout. @Microsoft: Baaad Kitty...

If you use MS Account to sync / have Edge current release installed, you might consider uninstalling and wiping out:
C:\users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\User Data
And re_install cleanly, let your extensions & syncing data load and hopefully, it will do the trick.

Thanks for the comments...I had already resolved the issue(s) by removing the browsing history when executing the uninstall...see my edited post.
