Hello all.

I've never dealt with SD cards, so I'm quite ignorant about their differences and abilities. I'm hoping that some knowledgeable people here can help me.

I was looking on Amazon and I found these 1TB cards. I'm confused as to why the MicroSD cards are cheaper than the standard SD card. I would assume that something that has the same capacity but is more compact would be more expensive. Could someone please explain.

My laptop can use both kinds, so which do you guys recommend?

Thanks.

My first thought was that standard outline SD cards are now classed as a legacy type technology and consequently not in great demand, hence higher prices.

The reason microSD cards are cheaper than full size SD is supply and demand. Many devices will only accept microSD cards and the microSD to SD adapters cost pennies to make. If you are manufacturing SD cards, it is much cheaper to crank out only microSD cards and add-on 5 cent adapters than it is to manufacture both micro and full size SD cards.

Frankly, sd cards are cheap technology and not reliable. The failure rate is much higher than ssds etc.

I would not touch these with a bargepole.

For half the price, you can buy a 1TB nvme drive and usb enclosure which will operate at up to 10 times those speeds and is much more reliable.

As many noted the price reflects the performance of the card. The "Extreme" series are their top performance driven products. SanDisk cards are extremely popular and are used by many professional photographers and videographers.

As a photographer shooting with DSLR bodies, I myself only use Sandisk cards - both SD and Compact Flash. Never had an issue with SanDisk products. I even use their thumb drives.

Hope that helps.

Nothing wrong with SanDisk other than some peoples dislike for the company. And I don't care what the product is or who makes it, someone is going to scream they suck. That's life.

But yes, there are other competitors, so if you don't like/trust SanDisk, try one of the others. That said, I suspect the issue is price, not trust in the product. But that's my take.

The OP was asking for NVME sellers. Sandisk NVMEs are about 2-3 x price of Kingston.

Yeah, cause those look like NVMe cards :cautious:

Thanks.
