Solved AUDIRVĀNA (and other audio related chitchat)

Come, Sweet Death - Johann Sebastian Bach
"Come, sweet death, come blessed rest..., take my hand and gently lead me onward"

This is probably the most soul stirring piece of music ever written!

Performed by Virgil Fox on the John Wanamaker Organ. Recorded 1969 on 35mm magnetic film.

Thanks

I've got it at "Earth quake vibrations now".

What a waste of that organ being in a store of all places. !!!!

cheers

Perusing the hifivision.com forums I came across this thread - Objectivity vs Subjectivity and this post which really sums up my feelings about audio equipment, but electronics in general....

insane79 posted...

I don't agree with ASR (a review site), having an amp that measures well according to them, would lead me to having some Denon avr (always measures best on their site) I had 2 Denon avrs in the past but my previous avr was a Nad & current one is an Arcam. According to my Ear Measurements lol, the Denon doesn't stand a chance with either. This is my perspective after actually using the products for what they are meant for & not measuring them with machines.

I think sometimes we get so caught up with reviews and "professional opinions" that we forget it's our own personal experience that matters when listening to or using equipment, and not those of others.

Just a thought :)

Is there a way to make JR sort your music by folder structure only, no matter how screwed up your meta data is?

Not clear on what you mean. You can edit tags by right clicking a file or album (or group of files/albums) and set from there. I have my collection arranged by genre in JRiver using tagging...

Screenshot 2022-05-13 185108.jpg

I don't fiddle with folders other than setting a master folder where my rips and downloads go. Each artist/CD I rip or download creates it's own folder and sub-folders for each album under that artist/CD in said master folder.

What specifically are you trying to do???

Basically, as in foobar, I'd like to be able to load a specific folder as is...,
whereas, JR loads the playlist with 31 tracks, (all doubles)...

One thing you need to be aware of is JRiver Media Center is built around a database so it relies more on metadata (tagging) than folder structure. If you're very reliant on folder structure, JRiver may not be to your liking. With that...

You could try importing a specific folder via Library - Import..., Configure Auto-Import, and add a specific folder from there. You can choose to include folders and child folders, include folder only, or exclude both folder and child folders. Below the folder dropdown menu, you can choose to exclude "Playlists" by making sure it's un-ticked.

JR-Folder-import-settings.jpg

You might also view this thread - Folder View. For me, I rely on the tagging features of JRiver.
