Background Colour

I recently bought a HP 255 Laptop and my Operating system is Windows 11. I previously had a Dell Laptop. When using Dell the background was white, but battling to change this to white or light gray

It would be appreciated if someone could advise on how to change this colour to a white or light gray background

It would help if you stated exactly what steps you have already tried in order to fix things. This saves others maybe wasting their time suggesting things that you have already tried.

First make sure color settings are correctly configured in Windows. The default is the light theme which is light for both Windows and applications. To mimic legacy behavior you must change that to custom and then set Dark for Windows (so the taskbar color is the default with white icons) and Light for apps. Then open Excel or any other Office applications and click on the FILE top left and select Options. Set the Office Theme to Colorful and the background color to None if you want the familiar light gray when no document is open (default in 2024 is Clouds).

These settings are correct. What are you trying to do? Default background color in apps is light gray, unless you open a document (Notepad, Word, Excel etc). Default color in Light mode Edge is also light gray around buttons. You can choose a different theme from Edge Settings.
