Backing up system

I use AOMEI Backupper software to back up my Windows 11 system. Now I noticed this morning that there were two options one was to back up the system and the other to back up the disk. What I am wondering is which should I use??

I believe that backing up the system is the one you want.
I think that backs up... Windows, etc.

Backing up the Disk, backs up the whole disk.

If the only thing on the Disk is Windows and it's associated partitions, then you can do either.

Thanks Ghot I will just back up the system then although I have already done a disk backup just to be sure as I don't have a lot of data on my main C: drive anyway. Oh and thanks for the link

I do not like AOMEI backupper's restrictions. You cannot select which partitions to backup unless you use partition mode, and then when you restore, you can only restore one partition at a time.

With disk mode, you backup every partition which is ok but if you have say a D drive partition with data on same drive, that gets backed up as well making the image backup large if you have a lot of data.

I never image data partitions, using other backup strategies.

So the only way I can do that is backup all partitions apart from D partition as a partition backup. Then I have to laboriously restore one partition at a time

Macroum Reflect is so much more flexible as it does not differentiate between a disk backup and a partition backup. You just select which partitiond you want to backup, and you can select which ones to restore all on one restore operation.

I accept the GUI for Reflect is less intuitive for beginners but it does not take long to go through learning curve. At that point, you realise how superior it is for managing backups and restores.

Well maybe I will try Macrium again Cerebus even though in the past I have not had that much luck with what it does often having an operation stop because of some (to me) obscure reason. The AOMEI I find just backs up the system or disk without any fuss.
