Booting from Old Windows Installation After Reinstalling on a New Drive

Windows 11
Hi everyone,

I reinstalled Windows on my new Samsung 970 EVO I bought a few months ago, but kept my old Windows installation on a separate drive by unplugging the old sata SSD my windows was on during the installation of the new one. I currently can see and access the windows files of the old windows installation on that drive. However I am curious if it's possible to still boot into the old Windows installation on the old drive. I don't remember seeing a secondary boot option in the BIOS.

Are there any potential issues I should be aware of, like activation problems or boot menu configuration? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Note: this isn't really important, I just want to learn in case I'll need to do smth like this in the future where it'll actually be important. Also I might wanna see if there's any settings I'd like to port over to my new installation.
Thanks in advance!

Since the old disk was disconnected, Windows 11 did not create a second boot entry. You can keep the old disk connected (but make sure the new disk has higher boot priority in BIOS, Boot section, Hard disk boot priority) and use EasyBCD to add the second boot entry. Or you can press F12 (or F8 or F11, see your computer manual) to bypass boot sequence and select directly the second disk from the Boot menu every time you need to boot to the old Windows installation.

Is the two drive same initialization type (MBR or GPT)?
Can you see both drives when you launch the one time boot menu (F8 during POST)?

Please post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.

If both operating systems aren't listed

If you've installed two versions of Windows on the same PC but they don't both appear in the boot menu when you start your PC, you can manually add a Windows installation:

  1. Open a command line and use Bcdboot to add the new operating system to the boot menu:

    Bcdboot D:\Windows

Where D:\Windows is the path to the new Windows installation. If you need to find the drive letter of your Windows installation, run diskpart and then list volume to see the letters assigned to your PC's drives.
