Solved Bought a Subscription for 3 Computers for Acronis a few questions

Hello All

Question #1 if i decide i don't really like it, do i have to use it til subscription over? If i decided to uninstall and go back to Macrium Reflect Home Edition 8, would it cause any issues in terms of PC file system or network access, or mess up any drivers or bluetooth

3rd PC can barely run it unforuately, so why thinking maybe just keeping them all on Macrium Reflect, as easier for me to support, and have them use 1 program possibly, but not 100 percent sure on that

Any advice is appreciated

Don't really wanna mess up my shiney Windows 11 still sorta clean install, so why not even sure uninstalling it is a wise move at the moment, but if it is, then will go for it, is it advisble to use Revo uninstaller to remove all traces if i decide to remove it--or will that cause even more issues?

Acronis has a cleanup utility...




I used Acronis for years. I'd recommend just starting with the cleanup utility...




On Windows 10, for example, I found it easier to just reinstall Windows, than to uninstall Acronis.

Ok can start with the Cleanup utility and go from there. I just started using Acronis on the 2 newer systems that work perfectly, previously used Macrium Home edition for a few years, maybe i just have to get used to Acronis if i decide to stick with it at least til subscription ends

If you contact Acronis, they might help you fix its performance or they might accept it as a valid reason to cancel the subscription & give you a full refund.
I found them very reasonable when I cancelled a purchase a few years ago.

Removing Acronis straightaway would not cause any issues.

Well 3rd PC i attempted to backup over a network share via wireless for that system, took like at least 5 hours, ((outlet is behind that corner bookshelf desk--surge protector hard to get to plug backup drive directly into that system, so i was attempting to do network backup lol))

Macrium Reflect Home some reason it goes pretty quick, tomorrow i may give it 1 more shot, and see how it does

3rd PC specs are AMD A6 3620, 8gb of Ram, 1TB hard drive, Wifi 5, USB 3.0 adapter

Main Machine wired 2.5gig ethernet connection with usb 3.0 adapter

I am puzzled why you decided to buy an annual renewable licence for Acronis when you already had a perpetual paid licence for Macrium Reflect (albeit you need the 4 licence pack but that is usually 50% off on Black Friday).

Yeah not sure why i did either honestly lol now that i think about it more

Possibly just wanted to support a Tech Youtubers channel, and i fell for the Acronis discount, when i didn't even really need it i realize now

I very rarely use Tech Youtube channels - most of them are garbage and never explain risks etc.

This forum gets loads of posts from users who tried some crap
advice from youtube videos and screwed up their installations e.g. "I changed all my file permissions in C drive so I could delete Defender like on a youtube video but now it keeps giving me error messages"

I actually got a free version (actually only free for five years now) with my disk drive and tried it (having made and image backup with Reflect first before installing it so I could revert and be sure all traces of Acronis were gone).

I certainly had no issues with it coexisting with Reflect.

My biggest issue was it now includes cyber protection software (you can turn it off) but it is "New Kid on the Block" in that respect. I would not trust it until it has an established track record.

I also had bad experiences with its customer support a few years ago as there was a serious bug and they said it would be fixed in next release (forcing an upgrade fee before new lease model).

I cannot say if things have improved with Acronis support but it left a bad taste in my mouth so I guess I am biased (and before users kick me - I am allowed to be).

So in the end, I (personally) did not find enough advantages of Acronis to be my main "go to image" tool and I restored my pre Acronis Reflect Image to ensure all traces were gone.

IF you have a Reflect image from before you installed Acronis, restoring from that would be the absolute best way to remove Acronis.

To follow on from my earlier comment, I find Reflect incremental/differential images are great (especially coupled with Rapid Delta Restore) when you want to just test a new app but revert immediately after if you decide not to keep the new app. Make an incremental before installing and you can revert very quickly.

It avoids all the detritus left behind from uninstalling an app.

Well i can't even reinstall Macrium Reflect, just sits there at Please Wait, even though i followed Acronis uninstall instructions, doesn't look like i have a Macrium Reflect image prior to using Acronis a bit though

Sighs don't wanna really do a second clean Windows 11 Pro 64bit install, but may have to if can't solve this sighs

Can't Even reinstall Acronis at all now

Try using Revo Uninstaller

I was a long-time user and gave up on Acronis several years back, when Win10 came out. Its sleeper background processes were slowing the CPU to a crawl and no amount of tweaking or uninstalling/reinstalling would fix it. I'm a happy Macrium user now after a short experiment with AOEMI.

Well now can't get Acronis reinstalled, Revo unintaller sees nothing after uninstalling it the first time, tried Acronis cleanup utlity--nada lol, still can't reinstall either one lol. So finished backing up all the files, and proceeding with Windows 11 clean install, and this time staying with Macrium Reflect Home and not switching for anything

No problem. Use your Macrium recovery options or bootable media. You haven't made one? Make one on another PC or just install W 'anything' 10 or 11 over the top of what you have booting from the install media, then install Macrium Free and then use that to restore your Macrium image.

As long as you have the image file there are always ways and means.

Fwiw I used to be a long term Acronis fan but that soured back around 2012 onward when the product just became bloated and buggy and more trouble than it was worth.

Well no version of Macrium would reinstall, ended up going with clean install of system, making base image soon here before everything reinstalled, and then will make another after everyting reinstalled i think.

Did have boot media for Macrium, but wasn't sure that would've even worked

Swapping to PC 2 to get the base image done on Desktop in a few minutes

And agrees Acronis ended up being more trouble than worth, and still have to hopefully uninstall it properly on Laptop, as don't really wanna clean install a second machine for today

Desktop should be fine for a while now

*And Gonna learn more on Macrium and how to do a restore properly in the future and remake the bootable media as well*

Still a bit of a noob when it comes to restoring my image backups i'm afraid, but getting there slowly lol

Laptop Uninstall went without a hitch with Revo Uninstaller on that machine, Macrium reinstalled just fine, gonna complete updated backups on that one shortly, dumbo me prior to switching to Acronis, deleted all the old Images--oops--think proves still a noob when it comes to backing up the machines

That's right :) but it should do with a fresh Windows install. Then reinstall Macrium, then restore your image. You don't need set anything up. If you have the Macrium installer file on USB then you don't even need to go on line with the new install which means no delays as the fresh installs launches into all its updates.

As long as you have the image file then you can restore it.

You also have to be 100% confident in your backup/restores and you should try them for real. It should not be a traumatic experience because you should know for sure it will work.

Yeah gonna be more confident, and if i have an image prior to trying Acronis on the 2nd Machine Laptop will definitely attempt a restore for first time, as normally i'd make the images, but never done any restores as i was like not sure if it would go fine or not

Desktop already reinstalled everything via downloads from WIndows Update, and Steam and Origin, but i can definitely clean up Laptop more if this image is good on the external and i have 1 of the OS M.2 and Storage drive as well (as due to size constraints on Laptop) most of the games and programs on 1TB storage drive, M.2 for Laptop is only 128gb
