Hello

I have a Dell Latitude 5420 laptop (i7-1185G7 / 32gb RAM) running Win 11 Pro (24H2)
System is around 3 years old and still under warranty.

My laptop is normally connected to a Targus Dual video 4K Dock (DOCK190), with 2 external screens, mouse, keyboard, webcam. This is plugged into the USB-C thunderbolt port and the dock has 100W charging via Power Delivery (PD).

There is also an ethernet cable plugged in.

The laptop runs perfectly - never an issue, except ...

  1. when I boot up off battery (dock and ethernet not connected), or
  2. when I unplug it from the dock and ethernet cable while it is on.

Are a few minutes I get a blue screen of death, with the message "Stop code: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED"

Any idea why this is happening or how to resolve it? (I was thinking it could be the battery, dock etc. )
I have the latest drivers and BIOS. Dell SupportAssist doesn't show any issues.

Please perform the following steps:

1) Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

2) Create a new restore point:

3) Reinstall the newest BIOS:

4) Reinstall: Dell Dock WD19/WD22TB4 Firmware Update Utility

4) Run the Dell preboot hardware diagnostics overnight while sleeping > take pictures > post images or share links
(Include advanced and thorough mode)

5) Run the Dell full test:

6) After posting images or share links for the above Dell tests plan to use the computer for 2 - 3 days without the docking station > for any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply.

I am in 2 minds - I am happy to do a clean reinstall on my system if that a better opetion.
Rather then run through all these steps, would you recommend the clean install, or is it better to troubleshoot per the above?

The thread can be closed / reopened if you need help.
Why not work with Dell support?
