Solved Built in camera works on Zoom, won't turn on using Teams.

Please note: I am holding off on installing the 24H2 Feature Update due to Internet instability.
I work from home, and I'm disabled, so if anything goes down, I won't be able to fix it.


Hi all,

I hope this week is being kind to you.
I had my first meeting with my boss for this year this morning, and we promptly discovered that my camera wasn't working in Teams.

I've tried the Windows 11 troubleshooting tool, but had no success.

I'm using an Acer Aspire Vero laptop, so it's a built-in camera.

Teams acknowledges that there is a camera, but it won't turn on.

Is there anything else I can try before springing for a USB webcam?

Are you sure that Zoom isn't starting up in the background with your laptop and "seizing control" of your camera?
If this is happening, there is a possibility that MS Teams knows the camera is present but cannot take control of the device. (device/software conflict)
Does the camera operate properly when you use the Camera function that is built into Windows?

Nothing happens when I start the native Camera app, interestingly.

The device is selected in Teams, and Zoom isn't allowed to run on startup, so I think that eliminates the possibility of it taking control?

Hmm... if nothing happens when you attempt to use the native camera app, now I am wondering about driver issues...

Perhaps Acer may have a newer driver available?

I would work this problem using the "lowest common denominator" meaning the built-in camera should work with the native camera app first before troubleshooting anything else.

you made sure the privacy cover isn't enabled right?

Also go to settings > privacy and security > camera and ensure its on for the app as well ask desktop apps

Does your laptop keyboard has a button to disable camera? or a camera cover? it sounds like it is disabled.

As far as I'm aware, there's no privacy cover on the camera.

The permissions are set correctly as well.
