Windows_11_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to bypass the Windows 11 CPU, RAM, Secure Boot, storage, and TPM 2.0 system requirements allowing you to upgrade to Windows 11 from a Windows 10 PC that doesn't meet these requirements.

Installing Windows 11 on a device that does not meet Windows 11 minimum system requirements is not recommended. If you choose to install Windows 11 on ineligible hardware, you should be comfortable assuming the risk of running into compatibility issues.

If you like, you can bypass the check for TPM 2.0 (at least TPM 1.2 is required) and the CPU family and model.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) technology is designed to provide hardware-based, security-related functions. A TPM chip is a secure crypto-processor that helps you with actions such as generating, storing, and limiting the use of cryptographic keys.

A processor or central processing unit (CPU), is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions.

Windows 11 minimum system requirements:

Processor1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC).
RAM4 gigabyte (GB).
Storage64 GB or larger storage device Note: See below under “More information on storage space to keep Windows 11 up-to-date” for more details.
System firmwareUEFI, Secure Boot capable. Check here for information on how your PC might be able to meet this requirement.
TPMTrusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0. Check here for instructions on how your PC might be enabled to meet this requirement.
Graphics cardCompatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver or higher.
DisplayHigh definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel.

Your device might malfunction due to these compatibility or other issues. Devices that do not meet these system requirements will no longer be guaranteed to receive updates, including but not limited to security updates.

The following disclaimer applies if you install Windows 11 on a device that doesn't meet the minimum system requirements:

This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for running Windows 11 - these requirements help ensure a more reliable and higher quality experience. Installing Windows 11 on this PC is not recommended and may result in compatibility issues. If you proceed with installing Windows 11, your PC will no longer be supported and won't be entitled to receive updates. Damages to your PC due to lack of compatibility aren't covered under the manufacturer warranty.

Before you install Windows 11
If you are unsure if your device meets the Windows 11 minimum system requirements and have Windows 10 already installed, you can download the PC Health Check app, which will assess eligibility and identify components of your device that don't meet the minimum requirements. The app will also link to info that details steps you can take to make your device meet the minimum system requirements.

After you install Windows 11
If you're experiencing issues after upgrading to Windows 11 and your device does not meet the minimum system requirements, we recommend you go back to Windows 10. This option is only available for 10 days following your upgrade, after which time the files needed to perform this function will be removed to free up disk space on your device.

Reference:

You must be signed in as an administrator to bypass the Windows 11 TPM 2.0 and CPU system requirements on a Windows 10 PC.

Here's How:

1 Click/tap on the Download button below to download the REG file below.

Allow_upgrade_to_Windows11_with_unsupported_system_requirements.reg

(Contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"UpgradeEligibility"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup]
"AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig]
"BypassCPUCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassDiskCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassRAMCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassSecureBootCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassStorageCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassTPMCheck"=dword:00000001

2 Save the .reg file to your desktop in Windows 10.

3 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

4 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

5 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink

It's worth a couple of additional notes:

First, if you perform a clean install by booting from Windows install media, the TPM and CPU requirement is automatically waived (a TPM version 1.2 is still needed).

However, you can bypass even more system requirements by following the steps below.

Note that the same warnings about installing on unsupported hardware applies, however I will note that I used this procedure to install on an 11 year old laptop with no UEFI firmware, no TPM of any kind, and a CPU that is also 11 years old.

Create a registry file with the following contents:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig]
"BypassTPMCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassSecureBootCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassRAMCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassStorageCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassCPUCheck"=dword:00000001

In this example, I will call the file RegUpdates.reg.

Save this file to your Windows install media. The location does not really matter but it is easiest to place it at the root. That is where I will presume it to be in this example.

Boot from your Windows install media.

At the first static screen where you are asked to respond, press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt. You may need to determine what the drive letter of your install media is. For example, try running these two commands:

D:
Dir

Do you see the RegUpdates.reg file? If not, try the above commands again but with E:. Repeat until you determine the correct drive letter. In my example below, I will assume D:.

From the command prompt, run this command:

Regedit /S D:\RegUpdates.reg

Close the command window.

You can now proceed with installation, and you should not receive a warning that your hardware does not meet requirements.

If you get to the screen where you are asked to accept the license agreement, then you successfully gotten past the point where you would have been warned that you did not meet requirements.

Note that the registry entries we made affect only the temporary Windows PE registry used to install Windows. It does not alter the registry of the actual Windows installation.

Finally, this procedure can easily be incorporated into an unattended installation of Windows 11. If you are interested in the steps to do this, please let me know and I will provide that information.

Apologies for yet another post on the topic, but I just tested yet one more alternative method. In my post above (#3 in this thread) I discussed the use of a registry file (a .reg file) to bypass the usual system requirements for Windows 11.

If preferred, the same result could be obtained using a batch file like this:

Code:
@echo off
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassTPMCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassSecureBootCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassRAMCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassStorageCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f
reg add HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassCPUCheck /t reg_dword /d 0x00000001 /f

I simply thought that I would provide this alternative because there may be some people already using other batch files to perform other functions during Windows setup and this would be an easy way to simply add a few lines to any already existing batch file.

Have fun installing!

This is very interesting.

I had a look, and I already have that DWORD Value and my system is full compatible with Windows 11.

I too checked all 3 of my PCs and they also have the DWORD value already set. I wonder if this arose because these PCs were all being used on Insider Preview? Two of my PCs are fully compatible (8th and 10th gen Intel) whereas the third fails the CPU check (Intel G3450) but does have secure boot, supports virtualization via firmware and I was able to install a TPM 2.0 module on the MB. I checked the DWORD before installing W11 as this particular PC never ran W11 - it was just on Release Preview for W10. All are running fine.

If Microsoft are even posting the DWORD Value, then it appears that they've decided to allow people to install Windows 11 on hardware that doesn't meet those system requirements.

I was just looking at my Z170 specs again and it has a TPM header on the board, I would just have to find and purchase a 2.0 TPM
But I`m not concerned right now, W10 is fine.

Hello, :-)

TPM and Secure boot will only be available if you have a UEFI motherboard that supports/includes it.

If you do, then you could enable them to not have to use the bypass to install Windows 11.

If Microsoft are even posting the DWORD Value, then it appears that they've decided to allow people to install Windows 11 on hardware that doesn't meet those system requirements.

I never ran an Insider Edition of Win 11 so could not check, but I do wonder if everyone who did run an Insider's had the Registry Editor hack because Microsoft did want everyone to be able to run it for testing regardless of hardware.

sure, but I would use this method because my USB toolbox does not work with secure boot enabled, so I would like to use this approach and after the installation enabling secure boot.

An additional method to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with unsupported hardware was reported in this video that appeared in several Eleven Forum threads:

a) Download a new Windows 11 iso to a desktop folder
b) Open the Sources folder in the iso and delete appraiserres.dll
c) Check the box to not get updates
d) Select keep personal files
e) Perform Windows updates after a successful upgrade to Windows 11

Hi guys!!

I'm trying to upgrade my (installed from fresh) Windows 11 21H2 to 22H2 using Microsoft installation assistant and it asks to run HealthyCheck before, but the bypass tricks aren't working. Tried to add that 5 DWORD keys to HKLM\...\LabConfig and the unique key on HKLM\...\MoSetup but the Healthy Check tool keeps blocking just because of my little old processor...

Someone knows how to bypass in this situation? I didn't want to do a fresh install again...

I really don't understand here. I simply DL the latest ISO and use Rufus to create a USB with the bypass feature then I double click on the setup file in the USB

The registry entries that you reference are intended for a clean install (booting from the installation media), not for an upgrade installation. You might try Rufus as WAI noted as an alternative that should work for an upgrade installation.
