Solved Can "display desktop" by hovering over the taskbar be added back to Windows 11?

Currently the desktop can be displayed by clicking on the "show desktop" button at the end of the taskbar, but is there a way to get the desktop to display just by hovering over the button as was possible in Windows 10? TIA

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

No, not that I know of. But as a workaround, if you click there it will show the desktop and another click will bring all the apps back.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

That little area to the right end of the task bar requires such precise mouse position (especially for people using a touchpad)it's always been kind of awkward to me. There are several ways to access the desktop quicker and more efficiently. These 2 work best for me. In case you're interested,here's how.
1. Use keyboard shortcut keys
Press Win key+D

2. Make a shortcut to "show desktop" and put it on taskbar

On desktop, right click anywhere, Select New>Shortcut> in location box insert C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{3080F90D-D7AD-11D9-BD98-0000947B0257} >
Name it 'Show Desktop' and assign it an icon. Once created, right click on it and select pin to taskbar.
Then delete the shortcut from the desktop.

No precision needed, really. With my touchpad I just throw the cursor towards the bottom right corner and keep going a bit more than needed. It always ends up on the very last pixel in the corner, the perfect position to click and show the desktop.

Thanks for these. I especially like "Win +D" since it toggles hide/unhide windows (y)
