Can not boot 0xc0000098 after changing motherboard

Hi

My old motherboard asus tuf x570 burned because of little nvme screw touched the board (dont know how) and I had to buy new one so I got MSI tomahok x570 and I expected my main nvme to boot normally but instead I got this error . tried to recreate EFI partition system nothing worked so I tried restore image using macrium this also did not fix the problem that presist for 3 boots then suddenly while I copy some winpe tools to usb the system booted directly into my old windows !!

I tried again several times and each time it boot successfully!! I dont know what prevent it and what fix it !!

I would go ahead and run sfc /scannow from an administrative command prompt to verify there are no corrupt OS files..

while having the problem I googled alot and could not login here asking for help but I tried all the solution in that link. even clean windows 11 install did not work !!

A clean from scratch install or a repair install? 2 completely different things. If it happened after a true clean install where all the partitions on the disk were deleted and windows was installed on unallocated space, the install should have configured the BCD correctly so I would lean more toward it being flaky hardware, a connection to hardware, a driver, or a disk error. I can see it happening after you restored your Macrium backup since that backup was made on different hardware. There is an option on the Macrium Rescue Media to fix boot problems that might have worked.

Others here disagree with me, but I have always been of the opinion that if a motherboard is changed, especially to a totally dissimilar one, I would never use the old disk without a reformat and clean install. I know it can and does work in a lot of cases, and windows will straighten out the drivers. But I'm more old school than most here and want to make sure that no old drivers are on the disk in any fashion. That includes restoring an image made on the old hardware.

Since the problem is no longer happening, all this is speculation on my part.

from usb win image boot no option for repair install I had to resinatall on old partition and it prompt me that I will find old windows in windows.old folder but after the first restart BSOD occurred twice !! I think as you said the system partition is corrupted needed it to be deleted.

With a windows.old, that's not a clean install. A clean install deletes everything from the drive, reformats, and installs windows.

repair install creates window.old and reuses existing drivers. Repair install is same thing as an in-place upgrade. A repair install has to be done from INSIDE Windows. Since you could not boot, I'm wondering exactly what you did.

dont think so because from usb boot did not allow me to retain my files and apps all would be lost.

You do not boot from usb to do a repair install. A repair install is exactly same as an in place upgrade except it reinstalls same version rather than later version.

You simply run windows, then run setup.exe from root drive of usb stick to repair/upgrade.

In fact, you do not even need a usb drive if you have the iso

mount iso, run setup.exe.

Yep it is that simple.

why do you think I boot from usb ? you did not follow ? I can not enter windows . usb boot has the option of upgrade but then no files or apps will be preserved they tell you you must do it from inside windows , very smart !! how I do that and I can not enter windows . I guess the os say not my problem.

That's exactly correct. During a clean install you delete all partitions which removes everything and install Windows on unallocated space. The install process rebuilds all necessary partitions, including the BCD configuration, and installs the OS brand spanking new. Your post led me to believe you had done a clean install but the issue remained afterward. Our answers are given on the info a poster provides to us.

A repair install and inplace upgrade ARE exactly the same thing. If you don't believe me, read Brink's tutorial.

Not necessarily the only cause, but the main cause of the boot error you were getting pointed to BCD. The first thing to have tried was to attempt to rebuild the BCD manually by booting from the installation media, repair your computer option, troubleshoot, advanced options, command prompt. Then entering the following commands.

• bootrec /scanos
• bootrec /fixmbr
• bootrec /fixboot
• bootrec /rebuildbcd

This procedure was in the link I pointed you to which you said " I tried all the solution in that link"

As stated, it's all moot now since whatever caused it seems to have resolved itself.

I am pointing agin to the option of keep your personal files and app it exists in usb boot when I upgrade install but when I select to keep things it say no you can not, do it from inside windows !!.
