Can Windows Host File block top level domains?

I want to limit one computer to a few websites and thought using the Host File would be the easiest method. I can get it to block particular domains but is there a way to block top level domains (e.g. .org or .bbc)? Essentially, block listing en masse.

Internet search comes up with an example (Allow only white-listed sites on Windows 10):
specifically, this list: All TLDs for HOSTS file - Pastebin.com, e.g.,

0.0.0.0 .bbc

Is this the correct format? It does not work when I try it. I flushed the ipconfig, too.

thank you,
