Canon IP7250 not being properly recognised

Firstly I'll state that this same printer works fine on a Windows 10 PC.

What's happening is that it shows up in the Windows 11 device manager but Canon's software won't recognise it.

Funnily enough when I go into the Win 11 settings and prompt it to find USB devices that won't locate it either, even though it's showing up under the list of USB Controllers. That said, the same method also won't find my USB Scanner and APC UPS even though those are working just fine.

The printer also shows up in devices and printers but only as an unspecified device (because Canon's software won't install).

Any ideas please?

I'm not optimistic that this will help, but have you tried using the "add a printer" feature?

I have only one Canon printer - a Pixma Pro 200. I had no problem installing its drivers under 11. I use its Ethernet interface, hardwired to a switch, which is connected to a router. (3 printers altogether, all using Ethernet.)

Thanks, yes I tried that but no luck. Also tried adding it manually to no avail, the system just won't find it even though, as mentioned, it shows up in the Device Manager and the list of devices via the control panel (shown as an Unspecified Device).

I find no Canon support page for ip7250 on Canon US site but did find a driver only on Canon Europe. If you are loading the software from an old disk, chances are the software does not work in 11. I know Canon has moved a lot of their printers over to using the Canon Print app from the windows store. You install the driver only, not the full software suite. Then install the app and go through its steps to setup the printer.

Thanks, that's very useful. I did in fact try that driver but I didn't know about the Canon Print app, etc.

Perhaps I should try removing all Canon-related printer drivers and software and start again?

I would. I can not state 100% about the Canon Print app working for that model as there's no documentation about that printer in relation to Windows 11. I gave it as a suggestion for a last ditch effort.
After the software is removed You might try manually installing the printer again as someone else suggested. (using "add a printer") This should make the print function work using the windows 11 driver I listed, but not having some kind of software will limit the other functions of your printer that you've been accustomed to controlling through your computer interface.

Another suggestion, try calling Canon support. In the US we have a contact number but I can tell by your local time you are not in the US. You might browse Canon support site for the number nearest you.

Which drivers did you try? The 5.60a look more interesting (16 bit printing).

Looks like the iP7250 may never have been sold in the US?

I eventually got it working by connecting the printer via WPS. Just couldn't get the USB cable connection working, not even on another PC using Windows 10. However, it still worked via USB on a PC that already had the drivers installed. Go figure.
