So my nephew got this Dell Laptop XPS 15 9530 from a company that they took over. My nephew asked me if I could reinstall windows since the laptop is being locked from a Microsoft account user. When the laptop boots up the Microsoft account pop up first and you need the password to start it up but he can't do such since he doesn't know the previous owner detail. So, I thought a fresh clean installment of windows would get rid of this problem but it doesn't. I can delete all the partition within the hard drive and reinstall windows but once it gets to the part with Microsoft account it shows the previous owner details ( again the password part) Anyone know ways of removing the Microsoft account and enter a new one? Oh yeah this laptop when it starts it shows this on the screen " Secured with Dell SafeBIOS " And I am able to enter the bios. Thanks

That has nothing to do with Dell, the previous company probably wrote this into the firmware.

I believe it may be. I wouldn’t mess about, I would be straight onto them.



I am curious; What happens if the OP flashes the firmware and creates a local account instead? Is it still locked in?
And if not, when they change it from a local account to an online account after the fact, will the previous domain take over?

Well, you can buy an eProm coding device, and if you know Assembly language, you can recode the firmware chip yourself. BUT... like others have said: "Get the company to do it".

Something along these lines...
Cheapest I could find



The eProm erasers and coders aren't that expensive, but you'll be trying to code in Assembly or HEX.

Correct, the PC is currently enrolled in Autopilot, it's the company that has to un-enroll it.

Nope, I don't know that kind of stuff. I'm just asking and seeing what are all my options, if it was something simple one can do, like going into the bios and changing a few setting or what ever but I sure don't want to play around with the firmware if there a chance I could ruin the system

Posts #2 and #4 are the ONLY way to do it.
You could call DELL and ask them, they "might" have a way to re-flash the firmware.

Is this Windows Autopilot thing a system firmware option or something via software? It it's software enabled meaning it's something baked into the drive, surely that can be removed?

You could try this.....

Once set up you would be free to switch the local account to a Microsoft account, if needed.

By the way, it's probably not DELL. It's was probably ordered that way (by the company that was taken over).
DELL "might" know a way to re-flash the firmware.

It's only a phone call to find out.

I did tried the oobe\bypassnro and ipconfig \ release but that didn't work is still takes me this guy Microsoft account password login. So you are saying the previous owner had this placed into the firmware?

Ok, so I was able to install windows and it did loaded up. I did the no network option with the oobe\bypassnro process, though the keys to open the command prompt was function+shift+F10 keys. Do you guys think maybe a firmware update will remove the autopilot? Thanks
