I'm trying to uninstall Office 2007 from my wife's Windows 11 desktop but no matter how I try using the setup/uninstall program I get a message saying a needed file is missing or corrupt. Her machine is on the latest full relòease and fully updated. A bit of background when installing Office on her new machine after uninstalling it from the previous one Microsoft blocked activation because the limit had been reached. It had not. 2007 is of course end of life so there is no support of any kind except trying sell a subscription to 365 which wouldn't help with uninstalling anyway. The message does not appear if I start setup on my machine which doesn't have office on it

Perhaps these will help you
Uninstall Office from a PC - Office Support
Manually uninstall Office apps - OfficeSupport

I've never uninstalled Office 2007. I think uninstallation refers to a 'manifest' within the initial installation file [setup.exe] that it uses to list all the components it needs to delete. Perhaps you've removed that file.

If those MS articles don't help then something like Revo uninstaller should be able to do the job. Whilst I have never used it I do keep seeing others recommend it.

Microsoft blocked activation because the limit had been reached. It had not.
You can use telephone activation according to this article [despite its name]
Telephone activation is no longer supported for your product error when activating Office - MSSupport

I'm getting a new computer in a couple of weeks and intend to install & activate MSOffice 2007 on it.
The last time I installed MSOffice 2007 was in 2020/2021 and there was no problem then. I didn't make any notes about it at the time so it must just have happened automatically in the normal way.

Do post back with your results.

Best of luck,
Denis

Thanks. The second link looks like it might be the way to go. (I was hoping it would need less effort ;-) ) I did try Revo but it uses MS setup program initially so I got the same message. There may well be another way to use it but I don't know

I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment but I'll post back when I'm able to try Try3's link

Understood.

Actually, I failed to mention one other method.
Get your installation disk & run its setup.exe file. Doing so with Office 2007 already installed used to bring up options: Re-install, Change, Repair, Uninstall. Or perhaps that's what you were referring to in your initial post.

Well that worked even if it did take rather a long time. There were rather a lot of registry entries to delete. Thanks again Denis for the link.
