This tutorial will show you how to change the compression scale for image quality when you share the file in Windows 11.

You can use Windows Share in Windows 11 to share a file with an app, email contact, mobile device (phone), or nearby device.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26120.4151 (Beta 24H2), build 26200.5603 (Dev 24H2), and build 26100.4482 (RP 24H2), in the Windows share window, as part of the ability to quickly edit and enhance images while sharing, Microsoft has adjusted the UI so that now you can now select their compression scale from High, Medium, or Low Quality, instead of choosing from an entire scale ranging from 0-100.

If you don't have the compression scale feature available in the builds above yet, then you can use the ViVeTool command below to enable it.

vivetool /enable /id:55390938

Here's How:

1 Right click on an image file you want to share, and perform an action below: (see screenshot below)
  • Click/tap on Share on the top toolbar.
  • Click/tap on Share with, and click/tap on More options.

2 If wanted, you can click/tap on the Edit button to quickly edit and enhance the image before sharing. (see screenshot below)

3 Select Original (default), Low, Medium, and/or High in the compression scale drop menu for the image quality you want used when sharing. (see screenshot below)

The compression scale is only used on the image when sharing it. It does not affect the image file at its source location.

4 Click/tap on Save when finished editing the image. (see screenshots above)

5 You can now share the image with an app, email contact, mobile device (phone), or nearby device. (see screenshot below)

That's it,
