How can I *permanently* change the Downloads folder format from "today", "yesterday", etc. to a standard format?

Hi Ed,

Not sure what you mean by "standard format," but if you want to change how the folders and files are grouped in File Explorer, then just right click in the right file pane (in an empty space) and uncheck the group indicated by a check mark.

right click group by Explorer File.webp

Kind regards,

tecknot

Thanks tecknot,

My downloads folder displays files and folders under the headings, "TODAY", "YESTERDAY", "A LONG TIME AGO", etc. What I want is the same display listing as every other folder on the drives. i.e. Folders first, in Ascending order, then individual files. Until reading your post about Grouping settings, I did not notice that "none" was included as an option. Clicking on "none" solved the problem.

Thanks, man! Worked great when I open Downloads folder directly, but not when it is opened by the Print command. I'll have to read the manual as there are a LOT of options available.
When you print something, it opens in whatever application is associated with the file type you selected. So, what application was opened where you were still seeing the Downloads folder grouped?

WinSetView clears all saved file dialog views so the next time they open in your preferred view (i.e. with no grouping) but that can fail to work as expected if the app was open when WinSetView was run. Maybe that's what happened? Also note that "closing" an app to the System Tray is not really closing it.

When I open the Downloads folder directly, it now displays un-grouped as I want. However, when I save an html page with the 'ms print to PDF command' the Download folder opens grouped.

What application? Edge? Chrome? Firefox?

Please post a screenshot. My best guess is that you're using Edge, but best not to be guessing.

@Ed McCauley I replicated the issue using Edge, but only if Edge was left running when I clicked Submit in WinSetView. If I first close Edge before clicking Submit, the file dialog is correctly updated to disable grouping. As per the WinSetView guide:

Note: For best results, close all open applications before running WinSetView. Open applications can prevent open/save dialog views from being updated.

Actually, I use Duck Duck Go.

What do you want to see in the Screenshot?

If you mean that you're using the DuckDuckGo browser, then that's the app you need to ensure is completely closed when you run WinSetView.

The request for the screenshot is to confirm what app you're running when you still see grouping in the Downloads folder.
