System Change System Product Name in Windows 11

Systerm_Information_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to change the system product name in Windows 11.

The system product name is the specific model of your Windows 11 device.

An OEM device's system product name (ex: "Surface Pro X") usually cannot be changed.

If you built the PC yourself, then there usually isn't a system product name specified allowing you to change the default System Product Name displayed to a custom name you want instead.

You must be signed in as an administrator to change the system product name.

EXAMPLE: System Product Name

SystemProductName_Settings-1.png
SystemProductName_Settings-2.png

Here's How:

1 Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).

2 Navigate to the key below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation

SystemProductName_regedit-1.png

3 In the right pane of the OEMInformation key, double click/tap on the Model string value (REG_SZ) to modify it. (see screenshot above)

If you don't have a Model string value, right click or press and hold on an empty space in the right pane of the OEMInformation key, click/tap on New, click/tap on String Value, type Model for the name, and press Enter.

4 Type a system product name you want, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)

SystemProductName_regedit-2.png

5 You can now close Registry Editor if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink

Shawn, could you please tell how you managed to install Windows 11 Pro for Workstation? I believed that Workstation version is a special version for powerful multi-processor PCs, while Pro is a version intended for common PCs in businesses, either standalone or in network, but with typical single-CPU configuration like most of home PCs. Your specification shows that you have a single CPU. The same is here, Windows 11 Pro is activated as digital licence of previous Windows 10 Pro, which has been initially activated using Windows 8 Pro key.

Hello Slavic, :)

You can install Windows 11 Pro for Workstations on any computer with the same installation media as Pro or Home. You will just need a Pro for Workstations key to activate though since a Pro or Home key will not activate it.

Hi, New user here Just registered to ask a question, This is very useful and effective. But the changes doesn't stick it reverted back to the original name/state every reboot. Asus ROG Strix G531GT is my device . I wanted to remove the underscore_G531GT

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Yes, I found that too, but...

There is another location that (if it exists) will take precedence and be used in place of that SystemProductName.
Create a Reg_SZ value named Model in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation
That one survives a reboot.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Thank you! I always wanted to make my device clean and professional looks. Anyways can I ask? Is it normal that sometimes my notification control panel in the taskbar (ethernet, sounds, battery icon) when I click there is a 2-4 seconds delay? It's my 2nd day with windows 11 now and seems things arent smooth like my experience in windows 10.

I'm curious, is it possible to keep the same OEM system product name when doing a completely new install of windows 11? I know there are methods like using Windows SIM, but I'm not sure.

Hello Dave, :-)

If it doesn't for some reason, you can always use the method in this tutorial to change it.
