Changing the "Default system UI language" from en-GB to en-US so I can use an en-US ISO?

The title says it all really...

Originally one of my systems was installed from an en-GB Windows 11 ISO, but I'm wanting to perform an upgrade (from 24H2 to 25H2) using the latest en-US language ISO.

I recall having a similar issue with a Windows 10 system, which I was able to remedy with a registry-tweak? (or possible some PowerShell commands!- However I'm unable to find the correct settings to change.

I've tried setting Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language "Default" and "InstallLanguage" to 0409, but after a reboot, it changes back to 0809 (en-GB).

See attached for the DISM get-intl output

Can anyone help me out?

Cheers,

Mike.

Try first to set the language as UI default. Settings > Time & language > Language & region: add English (United States) to the list of preferred languages, move it to the top of this list, then change the Windows display language from English (United Kingdom) to English (United States). It may require to download the language files from Microsoft, which takes some time.

Thanks for the reply. I've done all of that, but DISM is still showing "en-GB" as the "Default system UI language".

I think the key is to change that to en-US, which I don't think can be done through settings.

During the upgrade process, the installer appears to check the registry settings to ensure the Windows upgrade-version matches the language/locale of that which was originally installed on the machine.

Why not just use the English International ISO? Or do you specifically need the US one?

Of my 8 systems, this is the only one that still thinks it's a Brit :-)

I want them all to be on the en-US Default system UI language. Makes administering a bit simpler.

I managed to do it previously on a Windows 10 system, but can't for the life of my remember what I did.

Okay guys, problem sorted.

I needed to run RegEdit as admin - which I forgot to do!

So the registry tweak in my initial post WAS all I needed to do to fool the installer...

Thanks for you time.

Cheers,

Mike.
