CMD prompt just popped up and closed about 3 times, this doesn't happen often, about once every month, possibly after a update? Is it normal?

Sometimes, valid software changes can cause that.
On really fast computers, you might not even notice that it happened.
On slower computers it's sometimes more obvious.


For example...

This tutorial adds an option to the right click context menu.
When you use that option (after it's added), it always opens a command prompt window.
It only shows for about .25 seconds on my comp.

On a comp with an NVME drive the command prompt window probably doesn't show at all.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Well, my gaming computer is about 5 years old, I suppose it's not as fast as it was, I assume it'd be something to do with the update maybe? I shut it down after the restart and opened it back up just now.

Check Event Viewer
Event Viewer logs most system events, including task launches.

Press Win + X, then click Event Viewer.
In the left pane, go to: Windows Logs > System. You can also check Application logs.
Sort by Date and Time — look around the time the window flashed.

After installing the monthly updates, it's fairly common for Windows to run cleanup scripts on the first reboot. Or it could be OneDrive, Office or another app taking advantage of the reboot.

Because of the way Windows works, some files cannot be replaced or removed while they're in use. So a scheduled task is created to do this work on the next available reboot. If you reboot again, and see more flashing black windows, then I would be more concerned.

You should be able to uninstall or disable VMware

The first place to look is at the folders in the left pane below Task Scheduler Library.
Click the little arrow beside Task Scheduler Library to drop it down and reveal the folders.
