command prompt cd to Desktop

Trying to learn python. The class wants me to put a python file on the desktop and run it from there using command prompt. Unfortunately there is no Desktop. I can find in file explorer under C:Useers/Default. How do I do this with the command line?

Edit: Added C: to start of path.

The desktop will be located at C:\users\%username%\desktop.

The variable %username% will be replace with the current user name.

NOTE: You can run the command "set" from a command line to see all available set environment variables.

Huh, that's odd. All looks good there. I'll have to research this. Maybe someone else has some ideas in the meantime. I'm wondering if it's something like a corrupted user profile.

Yes it looks just fine. This is a brand new system. I have had it for 3 days.

Since you are using OneDrive, try
C:\Users\sage4>cd OneDrive
C:\Users\sage4\OneDrive> cd desktop

@TraderGary, do have more info regarding that? On all my systems where I use OneDrive, I can still access the desktop without going through the OneDrive folder. In addition, if I do go to OneDrive\Desktop, the contents of that particular desktop folder are completely different from my actual desktop.

Interesting. I keep all my data in OneDrive and that's where my desktop resides.

I do have a desktop folder in OneDrive, but the contents are completely different from my actual desktop. It may be some OneDrive setting but I'm too tired to chase it down now. I'll investigate in the morning.

In the meantime, thanks for that insight. I would have never guessed that.

Yes, in Python you add the .py extension to run it. MyExample.py

Sage249, turn extensions ON in File Explorer.
