Confused on modifying standard Win 11 install to bypass TPM and CPU checks?

I want to upgrade an old Lenovo T530 to run Win 11 Pro 64, but it fails the Win 11 install requirements. Right now it's running Win 10 Pro 64 v22H2, and booting up much faster since I replaced the old HDD with a SSD.

I've read a bunch of guides for doing the necessary modifications to the Win 11 install, but they all seem to require registry modifications. Here is my point of confusion: How can I modify the registry of an install USB created with Media Creation Tool? I am 100% comfortable in using regedit.

You don't modify the usb before you use it. What you do is boot from the standard install USB, then before continuing with the setup you modify the registry of the WinPE windows environment that Setup is running in.

See posts #3 and #4 here for instructions.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Nothing worked on my Dell Inspiron 3552 with an Intel Celeron N3060 CPU. Must be the chip is junk. The finish always ends the same was, "sorry, can't do it." Guess it will go to its grave with Win-10. However, my new 3510 runs Win 11 at least three time faster than the older one.

Last ace up your sleeve... create a hybrid Windows 10/11 USB flash drive. Use Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to create a Windows 10 64-bit USB. Then download latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft support site and mount it (Open with File Explorer). Navigate to folder sources and copy the file install.wim or install.esd Open the same folder in the USB, delete the file install.wim or install.esd from the folder and paste the one from the ISO. That's it! Boot with this USB to install Windows 11 without compatibility check.

Just tried this.

I should have realised (in hindsight) that this would work as I know using dism with install.wim works without doing checks.

Who needs rufus or regedits etc.

Nice one.

For reasons unknown to me I could not transfer the ISO to my USB jump stick. It flagged that the 5.2-Gb file was too large for my 30-Gb stick!!!! Yes, I could resolve that issue but after spending hours on all the guru words of wisdom I just about pitched that laptop out and forgot it. It seems as though MS has two complete companies, one Windows 10 with idiots and the other Windows 11 with actual software engineers. Maybe after I cool off, I'll spend time in the torture chamber and put 11 on my old Dell. It is similar to the 5-hour Windows 10 update that gets stuck om 74% compete for three hours. If I designed an update routine like that; I would forever hold my head in shame.

If you are trying to upgrade an unsupported computer to Windows 11 22H2 you must be disconnected from the internet the whole time. From running Setup until the last restart when you see the desktop. If you are connected the upgrade fails after a while. I confirmed it in at least three unsupported computers. Read the respective thread.

Now I just did not see that. The stick used to be NTFS..... I wonder how it was changed. Sometimes I wonder why that stuff gets by me-- getting old may be the answer. Thanks for the reply.

Well, I give up. No way will Windows 11 install on my Del laptop. Not biggie, I just wanted to see if it would improve things. I may have just run out of patience at the old age and just loss of interest. This PC is just great and the way I want a PC to operate. The newer Dell 15's with Win-11 are just tops.

Are you trying to upgrade from Windows 10 ot do a clean installation? Tell us details yo help you. Do you try an UEFI (manufacturer logo with spinning dots) or Legacy BIOS (blue Windows logo) installation? Sorry I don't have time to ho through all posts.

PS: Have you tried the hybrid USB drive? Read my post here: Confused on modifying standard Win 11 install to bypass TPM and CPU checks?

For enthusisats:
In my boot media I added the entries to pecmd.ini instead of calling the cmd file from winpeshl.

Code:
REGI #HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\\BypassTPMCheck=1
REGI #HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\\BypassSecureBootCheck=1
REGI #HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\\BypassRAMCheck=1
REGI #HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\\BypassStorageCheck=1

I still think the easiest way of all of this is to create / update a Windows VM - and simply restore to REAL Hardware Then just add the relevant missing real hardware drivers via control panel--> hardware. Select the devices -->update driver with with browse this computer -- and then use a copy of your previous windows drivers -- usually in windows/system32 folder.

Saves messing about with registry hacks etc etc. Windows update will find the odd possible missing ones.

Cheers

Could it be that your computer has hardware issues? Have you tried installing Windows 10? If it installs without issues, you can try upgrading from 10 to 11. If Windows 10 also fails you must check your computer for hardware issues. I would check the disk health with Hard Disk Sentinel or similar utility. Then I would check RAM with Memtest or similar. If you are not confident to troubleshoot it yourself you can ask a more experienced friend or a professional.

My older Dell has Windows 10. I think it came with it.

If it is Windows 10 64-bit you may try upgrading to Windows 11 to keep all your data and applications. This is done with the appraiserres.dll replacement method or using a patched USB flash drive created with Rufus. Don't forget to also disconnect from the internet before upgrading otherwise it will fail.
