If you mean in Explorer, then setting LibreOffice as the default app for documents should do it automatically.

If you mean the right click directly in LibreOffice Writer: Tools > Customize:

Like TairikuOkami, I don't quite understand what you mean by 'add "create new document" to the right click in LibreOffice Writer'

Lacking a screenshot for clarity, I will assume you mean the rt click on empty space, New context menu.

Key to this is which file type do you wish to create as a new document.
This is what I have, which includes those added by LibreOffice:

If you don't mean this, please make your question clearer. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.

If the Libre Office (Open Office now?) file types are still missing, this may be because they have been associated with some other application.

That link is displayed oddly in this forum and unlike tenforums I cannot see how to change that,
It's a discussion about this topic. Ignore any weird description.

I temporarily solved the problem with a trick by also installing OpenOffice which creates the right mouse button menu and then by default combining LibreOffice for .odt files

A normal installation of Libre Office from the msi should add 'Open Document text' to the new context menu. This is enabled by this registry entry:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.odt\LibreOffice.WriterDocument.1\ShellNew]
"FileName"="C:\\Program Files\\LibreOffice\\share\\template\\shellnew\\soffice.odt"

yes I have this key
maybe finding the key that OpenOffice creates for the context menu by uninstalling the program and leaving only LibreOffice and then adding the saved OpenOffice registry key should work

I omitted some required registry values. These are also required to make 'OpenDocument text' appear in the New context menu. There will be other keys and values in a functional install.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.odt]
@="LibreOffice.WriterDocument.1"
"PerceivedType"="document"
and

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LibreOffice.WriterDocument.1]
@="OpenDocument Text"
"FriendlyTypeName"="OpenDocument Text"

The basic requirements for a New entry as well as the Shellnew key are the default value in the HKCR\.odt key ("LibreOffice.WriterDocument.1") and the default value in the matchingHKCR\LibreOffice.WriterDocument.1 key ("OpenDocument Text") and a FriendlyTypeName value.

So if I understand correctly, if I uninstall OpenOffice and add your two registry keys, it should work? Can you attach the two keys in a .reg file, please?

What I'd suggest is to uninstall open office, and then to repair install Libre Office. Because of the probable overlap between the two packages it's likely that the repair will be required.

If after doing that the new menu entries aren't there, the next thing is to export the relevant keys so we can try to figure out what's going wrong. One other question: do the other Libre Office new items appear?

Another thing I overlooked. I checked the MSI I have which is English. Which one did you use? This matters; for example if the FriendlyTypeName, which I'd expect to be translated, is set to an empty string then the New item isn't shown.
